Revenue Growth: 354%
HQ: Washington, DC
Roger Carlile, Chairman & CEO of Ankura, says the firm is defined by how it solves challenges. “Our business advisory and expert services focus on designing, developing, and executing solutions for clients, whether they are facing immediate demands, increasing value, or protecting against risks,” Carlile says. “Assembling the right expertise for each client and situation, we know that collaboration drives results. We are excited about what we are building at Ankura. We seek to deliver the highest level of client service by bringing the right resources to each issue. We are able to do that by investing in our professionals and our clients.” Carlile sat down with Consulting to discuss the firm’s financial performance, which includes 354 percent revenue growth the last three years.
Consulting: What were the main factors that contributed to your firm’s exceptional growth?
Carlile: Ankura’s growth is a product of our commitment to client service and to a collaborative culture, which empowers its colleagues to team in innovative ways and in turn adds value to clients. As our clients experience Ankura on these two points, they seek to engage with us more deeply and refer us to others. Further, as Ankura’s colleagues share their experiences with their friends and as other professionals hear of Ankura’s culture, many seek to join the firm.
Consulting: How is this year shaping up for your firm?
Carlile: 2018 will be a transformational year for Ankura. During 2018, the organic growth in the number of our client relationships and colleagues has continued to be strong. Ankura also became a global firm with over 1,400 colleagues in over 30 office locations spanning the Americas,; Asia Pacific; and Europe, Middle East & Africa (“EMEA”). Ankura will have more than doubled its 2017 revenue in 2018.
Consulting: How would you describe your firm’s outlook for 2019? Where do you see the most opportunities?
Carlile: 2019 will be another year of growth for Ankura. Ankura sees many growth areas in terms of geography, industry and services. Given Ankura’s recent expansion into Europe, the Middle East and Asia, we anticipate expanding our U.S. services to many of these locations. We also foresee strong growth in our Construction and Healthcare industry offerings along with key service areas such as Information Privacy and Cybersecurity.
Consulting: What would you say are your firm’s biggest challenges in 2019?
Carlile: Ankura’s number one challenge is the continued attraction, development and retention of high-performing professionals who are effective members of a highly-collaborative client-focused culture. Its number two challenge is the continued commitment to, and development of, that culture such that clients and colleagues alike experience the full benefits of it.
Consulting: What does being named one of Consulting’s Fastest Growing Firms mean to your firm, your employees and your clients?
Carlile: It means a great deal to be recognized in this way. While everyone at Ankura sees and believes in the principles that underly its success, having clients and others such as Consulting Magazine recognize that success adds to our sense of purpose and success.
