Huron Consulting Group James H. Roth President & CEO

Consulting: As we close out 2015, where is your firm today?

Roth: We continue to remain encouraged, if not surprised, by the pace of change taking place in our core markets. In 2015, we made equally rapid and sustaining changes in our business to align with our clients’ needs. While the pace of change has been quick, the need to change is always necessary in the consulting profession. 2015 was no exception.

Consulting: How would you describe your firm’s outlook for 2016?

Roth: We are excited about our prospects for 2016. Following the divestiture of our Legal practice, we will continue to build on our strengths across our remaining businesses as well as enhance the alignment within our practice areas to create a more robust, cohesive go-to-market strategy. We expect the pace of change in each of our core markets will continue to drive demand for each of our practices, driving further growth in 2016.

Consulting: What specific signs are you seeing that suggest an increase or decrease in demand?

Roth: The stress from economic uncertainty and the rapidly evolving market conditions that our clients face suggests that we should see an increase in demand. Even the best and brightest of our clients have to be masters of change within their own organizations, and leadership often looks to consulting firms to help them architect and execute that change.

Consulting: How do you see the profession evolving in 2016?

Roth: The pace of change affecting our clients translates into change within the consulting industry. The speed at which our clients need to transform their organizations results in higher demands for consultants to be more conversant and knowledgeable about the origins and implications of the changing business climate.

Consulting: What do you see as the biggest opportunities in 2016?

Roth: The biggest opportunity we see in 2016 is to help our clients go through the most complicated and critical transitions they have ever faced. As leaders in the markets we serve, we are presented with these critical and strategic opportunities as our clients turn to Huron to help them with their most complex issues to best position them for success in the future. Our challenge is to make sure that our people and our business strategy continue to evolve to not only meet the needs of our clients today but also tomorrow. Change in the consulting industry is inevitable, and we need to remain at the forefront of the issues that our clients face in order to remain industry leaders.
