Berkeley Research Group has established a new Advanced AI & Decision Intelligence practice, bringing on four senior-level hires to build out the firm's capabilities in the space.

Peter Smith, Managing Director, BRG.

The new group will be led by Managing Director Peter Smith, who joined BRG in 2025 from Accenture Song, where he served as the global head of AI. The practice aims to integrate AI solutions into analytical workflows to support client decision-making, particularly in environments that require legal and regulatory scrutiny.

Joining the firm are managing directors Raghav Vadlamani and Nick Hahn, who will be based in New York, and Jennifer Langusch, based in Sydney. The firm has also added Andy Hickl as an independent senior advisor. Hickl has previously held leadership positions at Microsoft, Intel, the Allen Institute and Accenture and has co-founded several AI-focused startups.

Jennifer Langusch, Managing Director, BRG.

The new practice group consolidates BRG's existing services in AI, advanced analytics, data privacy and compliance into a single, firmwide offering. According to the firm, the goal is to provide solutions that go beyond typical technology partnerships that may prioritize software over strategy.

"By combining an expert senior advisory group with AI practitioners, we are bridging the gap between technical development and practical application," said Smith. He noted that a key focus will be on ensuring AI solutions are designed with the validation, human oversight, and transparency required in legal and litigation contexts.

The formation of the practice is part of a broader trend in the consulting industry, where firms are racing to formalize their AI offerings and attract experienced talent to meet growing client demand for AI strategy and implementation. BRG's focus on defensible AI for regulated environments appears tailored to its core strengths in disputes, investigations and corporate finance.

"Our clients face increasingly complex data, regulatory and operational environments that require an ever-higher level of technical authority," said Tri MacDonald, CEO and president at BRG. "The launch of this practice group ensures BRG is at the forefront of expert-led AI advisory, providing the clarity and strategic edge our clients require."
