Craig Woodfield, Managing Partner, Grant Thornton LLP.
Veteran partner will succeed Jeff Hughes, who is retiring in June, and will oversee all quality control and risk functions for the firm's Audit & Assurance business.
Grant Thornton LLP has named Craig Woodfield as its new national managing partner of Assurance Quality and Risk. In this position, Woodfield will be responsible for overseeing the quality control and risk management framework for the firm's audit and assurance services.
Based in New York, Woodfield will take over the role from Jeff Hughes, who is set to retire in June 2026 after a 40-year career in the industry.
Woodfield brings more than 30 years of experience in the accounting and audit sector to the role. He joined Grant Thornton in 2007 and most recently served as the Audit practice leader for the Northeast region. His previous leadership positions at the firm include serving as the Audit practice leader for the East and Central regions and as a partner in the firm's Professional Standards Group. Before joining Grant Thornton, Woodfield held executive-level finance positions, including chief financial officer, in the financial services and technology industries.
"Craig brings to this role a wealth of experience and deep commitment to quality, integrity and trust that will help us continue to raise the bar on all of our quality-focused initiatives," said Ron Messenger, CEO of Grant Thornton LLP. "Jeff's tenure at Grant Thornton has been instrumental in helping us sharpen our controls and risk-management framework... I look forward to Craig building upon Jeff's momentum."
The appointment is situated within a broader firm-wide push to enhance audit quality. Over the past year, Grant Thornton has detailed several related initiatives, including investments in AI-based analysis tools, updates to quality control processes, and expanded training programs. The firm has also focused on strengthening pre-issuance reviews and standardizing work papers to improve consistency across its audit engagements.
Woodfield is a certified public accountant in New York and Texas and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the National Association of Corporate Directors.
