Peter Smith, Managing Director, BRG.
Move signals the firm's increasing focus on integrating artificial intelligence across its practice groups and client service delivery.
Berkeley Research Group (BRG) has appointed Peter Smith as a managing director to lead the firm’s artificial intelligence initiatives. Smith joins BRG from Accenture Song, where he served as the Global Head of AI. In his new role, he is tasked with accelerating the integration of AI across BRG’s practice groups, client services, and internal operations.
Smith brings nearly two decades of experience in data, analytics, and AI. At Accenture Song, he was responsible for developing the AI and generative AI strategy for the creative and marketing services business. While at Accenture, Smith was also named as an inventor on six AI-related patents. Before his time there, he held senior roles at firms including R/GA, Capgemini, and Navint Partners.
The hiring of Smith appears to be part of a broader strategic push by BRG into data-driven and AI-enabled consulting. The firm noted that the move builds on its continuous investment in digital analytics and follows the recent appointment of Jack Azagury as Chair of the Board, a decision also intended to identify key growth opportunities like AI. Smith’s role will involve unifying various existing AI initiatives within the organization and developing an enterprise-wide AI roadmap.
"Peter brings a rare combination of visionary leadership, technical know-how and operational experience in enterprise AI,” said Tri MacDonald, CEO and president at BRG. “His appointment strengthens our capacity to deliver differentiated data-driven insights and complements our ability to serve as a trusted partner to clients navigating the most complex challenges."
Smith will work directly with BRG practices to embed AI-first approaches into service delivery, with an initial focus on areas such as healthcare and financial services.
“BRG’s subject-matter expertise and advisory-first culture create a powerful foundation for developing impactful and responsible AI capabilities,” Smith said in a statement. “The opportunity to enhance decision-making, improve efficiency and generate new value for clients through responsible AI use is massive, and I’m excited to tap into the firm’s existing capabilities and help accelerate its AI evolution.”
