Jo Thomson, Edinburgh Office Senior Partner, KPMG.

KPMG UK has named a new Office Senior Partner for its Edinburgh location and added a corporate tax partner, signaling a period of expansion for the firm in the Scottish capital.

KPMG UK has appointed Jo Thomson as its new Edinburgh Office Senior Partner. She will lead a team of over 400 people based at the firm’s Saltire Court office. Thomson succeeds Arleen Arnott in the role.

In addition to leading the Edinburgh office, Thomson has also been appointed as KPMG’s public sector lead for Scotland. In this capacity, she will be responsible for deploying the firm's tax, audit, and advisory services to assist public sector organizations as they manage Scotland's evolving policy landscape. Thomson has a background in supporting large-scale transformation consulting projects for various organizations.

"I’ve spent much of my career supporting organizations to improve the services they deliver to their customers through large scale transformation consulting," Thomson stated. "My mantra for this first year is to listen, learn and really understand what is unique about Scotland, while also bringing a fresh perspective and the benefit of my wider experience."

The appointment comes as KPMG strengthens its Edinburgh team. Stuart Thomson has re-joined the firm from Johnston Carmichael as a corporate tax partner. With over 25 years of experience, he will focus on Scotland’s family-owned and private equity-backed businesses, providing tax solutions and compliance management.

"This is an exciting time to be re-joining KPMG in Edinburgh, with Jo taking on her new role and the office going from strength to strength," said Stuart Thomson. "I’m looking forward to working alongside her and the wider team in Glasgow and Aberdeen to support Scotland’s most ambitious businesses."

Vishal Chopra, Scotland senior partner at KPMG UK, commented on the appointments, stating, "They bring strong experience that will enhance our presence in Edinburgh. Their contribution will support our clients, strengthen relationships and help Scotland’s organizations to achieve their ambitions."
