Wayland Lum, Managing Director, FMG Leading
The former CEO of leadership advisory Copperbox will head the firm's Human Capital Due Diligence and Value Creation Leadership practices, focusing on private equity clients in the health care sector.
Human capital advisory firm FMG Leading has appointed Wayland Lum as a new Managing Director. The hire is intended to expand the firm’s advisory services for investors and private equity-backed companies within the U.S. health care system.
In his new role, Lum will lead the firm’s Human Capital Due Diligence and Value Creation Leadership practices. His responsibilities will center on advising private equity clients on leadership optimization, connecting leadership investments to enterprise value, and integrating emerging technologies to support human capital performance.
Lum joins FMG Leading from Copperbox, a leadership advisory firm he founded. He previously worked in Korn Ferry’s CEO and Executive Development practice, where he advised Fortune 500 executives on assessment, succession and leadership development.
"The FMG Leading team is uniquely positioned to set a new standard for health care value creation, quantifying human capital performance drivers to help clients assess and accelerate growth throughout their portfolios, ultimately leading to higher multiples at exit,” Lum said in a statement.
The appointment follows other recent developments at FMG Leading in 2025, including the hiring of former private equity leader Will Busch, III as President and the publication of two health care industry reports.
“At FMG Leading, we’re helping our clients position their firms ahead of market shifts,” said Matt Brubaker, Chairman and CEO of FMG Leading. “To do so, they need leadership strategies as sophisticated as their deal structures. The addition of Wayland further enhances our clients’ ability to bridge the gap between human insight and business outcomes.”
Lum holds an MBA from Baruch College and an M.S. in Learning and Organizational Change from Northwestern University.
