Sykes, an audit partner who has led the practice on an interim basis since July, will focus on growing BDO's advisory services for mid-market clients.
BDO has named Mark Sykes as its new permanent Head of Consulting, an appointment that is effective immediately. Sykes has been leading the firm’s consulting practice in an interim capacity since July 2025.
Before taking on the interim leadership role, Sykes was an audit partner at BDO, where he advised businesses in the manufacturing, technology, and retail sectors. Since joining the firm in 2013, he has held several key positions, including leading the transformation of the firm’s business services and serving as Head of Entrepreneurial Business, where he assisted companies preparing for private equity ownership or an IPO. His earlier career included work on large-scale public sector IT outsourcing and transformation projects.
In a statement, Sykes positioned BDO's consulting arm as a nimble alternative to more established competitors. "As a relatively new consulting team, we don’t carry the baggage of some of our more established competitors," he commented. He noted a focus on delivering expertise in high-demand areas such as digital, AI, ESG, business process optimization, and risk consulting for the firm's mid-market client base.
Leigh Treacy, Head of BDO’s Consulting, Risk and Outsourcing practice, added that Sykes is "perfectly placed to help steer our consulting business where we see huge potential for growth," citing his experience helping clients scale their operations and adopt new technology.
