Move brings the New Zealand firm, with its $40 million in revenue and 300 professionals, into a growing multinational platform backed by New Mountain Capital, aimed at creating an integrated global advisory practice.
Grant Thornton Advisors LLC is expanding its multinational platform into the Asia Pacific region with the addition of Grant Thornton New Zealand. The transaction, expected to close later this year, marks a significant geographical step for the U.S.-based entity's strategy of building a globally integrated advisory and tax service.
The New Zealand firm adds more than 300 professionals and over US$40 million in annual revenue to the platform. It provides audit, tax, and advisory services in its local market.
The move is part of a larger initiative launched earlier this year by Grant Thornton Advisors, which is supported by an investor group led by New Mountain Capital. The platform's objective is to combine high-performing Grant Thornton member firms into a single, cohesive advisory and tax practice, complemented by independent audit services. This structure allows for shared resources, capital and technology across member firms.
"Modern businesses demand seamless service and consistent quality—whether they’re operating in New York, Auckland or locations in between," said Jim Peko, CEO of Grant Thornton Advisors LLC. "By welcoming Grant Thornton New Zealand to our platform, we’re expanding our multinational reach into a vital region with a firm that shares our ambition and values."
The platform already includes Grant Thornton firms in the U.S., Ireland, France, the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, the Channel Islands, and the Cayman Islands. Transactions with firms in Spain, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Belgium and Luxembourg are expected to close in the coming weeks. The platform has also made strategic acquisitions outside the core network, including outsourcing specialist Auxis and commercial due diligence firm Stax.
For the New Zealand firm, joining the platform provides access to increased capital and technology. "As our market continues to evolve, businesses are looking for smarter solutions, deeper expertise and global connectivity," said Russell Moore, CEO of Grant Thornton New Zealand. "By joining Grant Thornton Advisors, we can deliver all three."
Despite the integration into the new platform, the entity will remain a part of the Grant Thornton International Limited network, which includes member firms in over 150 markets.
