HKA, a consultancy focused on risk mitigation and dispute resolution, has expanded its expert services capabilities with a series of strategic hires across four of its practice areas. The additions are aimed at growing the firm's presence in construction claims, intellectual property disputes, forensic engineering, and financial investigations.
The most significant single addition is a group of eight intellectual property and financial forensics experts from Echelon Analytics, who have joined HKA's Americas team. According to the firm, this team specializes in quantifying damages and providing expert testimony for intellectual property infringement cases, banking litigation, and commercial damages disputes.
"This expansion reflects our continued commitment to investing in world-class talent and deepening our capabilities in areas that matter most to our clients," said Renny Borhan, HKA's chief executive officer and partner.
In addition to the team from Echelon, HKA has made several senior appointments. Vanessa Varona joins the firm as a partner in its Forensic Accounting and Investigations practice in Miami. Varona has 15 years of experience leading fraud investigations and dispute resolution services in sectors including transportation, healthcare, and manufacturing.
The firm’s construction-related practices also saw new additions. Deviprasad Pentapati was appointed as a director in the Construction, Claims and Expert Services practice in Houston. He brings over two decades of international experience, having worked on projects such as the $4 billion Confederation Line Extension in Ottawa.
In San Francisco, Thomas Moreno has been named a director on the Forensic Engineering Expert Services team. A licensed general contractor with 27 years of experience, Moreno focuses on the forensic analysis of construction defects and has served as an expert witness in depositions and trials.
