Brett Kumm, Managing Director, Alvarez & Marsal.

Former FTI Consulting Senior Managing Director brings more than two decades of experience in forensic accounting and white-collar crime matters to A&M's San Francisco office.

Alvarez & Marsal has hired veteran investigations consultant Brett Kumm as a Managing Director in its San Francisco office. Kumm will join the firm's Investigations and Compliance practice within the Disputes and Investigations division.

The appointment comes as consulting firms continue to expand their advisory services for clients facing increased legal and regulatory challenges. Kumm’s background focuses on forensic accounting, internal investigations and advising companies on high-stakes matters involving the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Kumm brings more than 25 years of experience to the role. His work has included advising boards, audit committees, and senior management teams at multiple Fortune 100 companies. He has also presented investigative findings to federal regulators, evaluated whistleblower allegations, and handled financial reporting disputes related to mergers and acquisitions.

“Brett’s experience aligns perfectly with our growth strategy for the Investigations and Compliance practice, particularly as regulatory scrutiny continues to intensify,” said Jerry Dent, Managing Director and Global Practice Leader of A&M’s Disputes and Investigations division.

Steve Spiegelhalter, Managing Director and leader of A&M’s Investigations and Compliance practice, added, “Brett brings years of the same experience in high-stakes settings and will expand our ability to help clients address sensitive issues quickly and effectively.”

Prior to joining A&M, Kumm was a Senior Managing Director at FTI Consulting’s Forensic & Litigation practice. He previously spent nearly two decades at Arthur Andersen and KPMG. He holds bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and Finance from the University of Oregon.
