CMAG: What characteristics and elements would you attribute to your firm’s inclusion as a Best Firm to Work For?

At The Gunter Group, our inclusion as a Best Firm to Work For is a direct result of our intentional, people-first culture grounded in six non-negotiables: Collaboration, Integrity, Intellectual Curiosity, Thriving in Ambiguity, Emotional Intelligence and Grounded Confidence. We invest in our people with purpose. This includes industry-leading benefits such as flexible PTO and holidays, paid parental leave, generous health coverage including Direct Primary Care, and profit-sharing retirement contribution.

Our team also receives stipends for professional development, wellness and work-from-home resources, ensuring every consultant has what they need to thrive both professionally and personally. We create space for connection and growth through weekly standups, mentorship, knowledge sharing and firmwide retreats. Our culture encourages trust and transparency. Every consultant has visibility into firm operations, leadership decisions and our financial performance. That level of openness creates alignment and reinforces shared purpose. Most importantly, we support our team as people first. Whether sending meals during a hard time, offering extra leave when life happens, or celebrating promotions with personalized gestures, our People Team leads with care and empathy.

This commitment to the whole person is reflected in our employee engagement results. Since 2014, we have utilized the Gallup Employee Engagement survey as a crucial tool in our pursuit of excellence. Year after year, our scores surpass the average, demonstrating our commitment to creating a vibrant and inclusive workplace where every employee's voice is valued and contributes to our success. We believe that culture drives outcomes, and our culture continues to be the foundation of both our employee experience and our client success.

CMAG: Are there any specific programs or initiatives that contributed to you being included as a Best Firm?

Several intentional programs and initiatives have played a direct role in our inclusion as a Best Firm to Work For. We start with recruiting. We are highly selective in who we invite to join our team because our culture is one of our greatest assets. Protecting it means bringing in individuals who embody our standards for service excellence and align with our non-negotiables.

Our approach identifies exceptional consultants while ensuring each new hire strengthens the culture we’ve built. Every consultant experiences a tailored onboarding process with both firm-specific and client-specific tracks, ensuring they feel supported, prepared and connected from day one. Our Ambassador Program pairs each new hire with a tenured consultant to help them navigate their first months, connect with the team, and build meaningful relationships early on. We invest heavily in development. Every employee receives an annual professional development stipend for certifications, coursework, conferences, coaching or other learning opportunities. Our internal TGG Academy complements this by offering curated training in consulting skills, leadership and business development, reinforcing our commitment to intellectual curiosity and career growth.

We also listen. Our annual engagement survey is more than a benchmarking exercise—it actively shapes new programs and improvements each year. Feedback drives the evolution of our benefits, policies, and communications to reflect what our people value most. Connection is another pillar of our culture. From monthly TGG Connects events for employees and families to our annual all-firm retreat in Sunriver, we create space for relationships, celebration and reflection. These moments foster belonging and recharge our team. Each of these programs is rooted in our belief that people thrive when they feel seen, supported and challenged to grow. That belief continues to guide how we invest in our team and build a culture worthy of recognition.

CMAG: In describing your firm, what would you say sets it apart from other consulting firms?

What sets The Gunter Group apart is how we engage with our clients, our team and our work. We combine top-tier consulting capabilities with a deeply authentic approach.

Our consultants bring strategic acumen, executional excellence and a bias for action. But they are also curious, collaborative, grounded and emotionally intelligent. That unique blend shapes the way we partner with clients to solve complex problems and lead lasting change. Unlike firms that rely on rigid methodologies or transactional engagements, we lead with trust and flexibility. We work alongside our clients, embed within their teams, and adapt our approach based on what will truly drive outcomes. Whether helping launch a new system, realign a strategy or navigate enterprise transformation, we bring clarity, calm and momentum. Internally, we operate with intentionality.

We hire with care and build teams that reflect our culture. Our consultants are not just high performers. They are teammates who listen, collaborate, and show up for each other. Our size allows us to be nimble and personal. Our experience spans enterprise clients across industries including insurance, healthcare, financial services, retail and education. Clients choose us because we do not just deliver on the work. We make the experience of working together positive, purposeful and productive. This combination of high capability, human-centered consulting, and consistent care is what truly sets TGG apart.

CMAG: Where your workforce is concerned, what would you say your priorities look like for the upcoming year and beyond?

As we look ahead, our top workforce priorities center on growth, development and connection. We are actively expanding into a new geographic market, creating exciting opportunities for our team to grow and add value in new communities and with new clients. This growth is tied to our focus on creating meaningful work that supports our consultants’ long-term goals and leverages their unique strengths. When our people are engaged in purposeful work, they thrive, and we remain committed to creating more of those opportunities.

We are also investing in how we share our story. By elevating marketing and business development efforts, we are getting better at telling the stories of our incredible team and the impact we’ve made for clients. This not only celebrates our people but also helps us expand our reach to serve clients across the country. Development remains a cornerstone of our culture. Our TGG Academy program will launch additional training this year to support both consulting fundamentals and advanced leadership skills. These learning opportunities grow with our people, meeting them where they are and preparing them for what’s next.

We also prioritize connection. Monthly TGG Connect events for team members and their families create space for relationship building, fun and community. We’re especially looking forward to our annual firm-wide retreat in Sunriver this fall, where employees and their families can step away from day-to-day work and reconnect with each other and our shared values. Above all, our priorities reflect our commitment to being a place where people feel supported, challenged and connected; doing work they love, with people they respect, in an environment that values who they are and who they want to become.

CMAG: What opportunities do you see as the most promising?

Looking ahead, we see promising opportunities in both the growth of our firm and the evolving needs of our clients. One of the most exciting developments is our expansion into a new geographic market. This allows us to extend our people-first consulting model into new communities, build client relationships and broaden our impact. We are approaching this growth with intentionality, knowing it opens doors for both our team and the organizations we serve.

We also see strong and increasing demand from organizations focused on turning strategy into action. Many are navigating complex transformation efforts, from system implementations to operating model shifts, and our strength lies in helping them execute, not just plan. This positions us to drive meaningful outcomes. Another key opportunity is our people-centered approach to change. As companies pursue digital transformation, workforce reengagement and organizational redesign, they are realizing that success depends on adoption, alignment and culture. Our blend of emotional intelligence, strategic insight, and delivery excellence prepares us to lead in these moments. We are also investing in intentional training and professional development to ensure all our team members are AI proficient. By building this capability across the firm, we can scale the impact we have at clients, helping them harness new technologies in ways that are practical, human-centered and results-driven.

We will continue investing in industries where we have a strong foundation, including insurance, healthcare, financial services, retail and education. These sectors are evolving rapidly, and we are well-positioned to help clients adapt with agility and depth. Internally, we focus on purposeful scaling by expanding support structures and leadership programs, preparing our team to grow with the firm and meet the future confidently. Ultimately, the most promising opportunities are those that allow us to create value while staying grounded in who we are.

CMAG: What market forces do you see as the most challenging?

One of the most significant challenges we see is the continued uncertainty across industries. From macroeconomic shifts to evolving regulatory environments, many of our clients are navigating unpredictability that makes long-term planning and investment decisions more complex. This affects not only how they allocate resources but also how they approach transformation initiatives. Another significant challenge is the accelerating pace of transformation.

Many organizations are under pressure to move quickly in response to shifting market expectations, new technologies and internal performance demands. That urgency often leads to change initiatives that are rushed, under-resourced, or misaligned with broader business goals. We are seeing more companies struggle to balance speed with clarity, and short-term wins with long-term impact. Our role is to help clients move with intention, build the right foundations, and lead transformation that is both strategic and sustainable. Technology transformation also presents challenges.

While advancements in data, AI and automation offer exciting possibilities, many organizations are struggling to align these innovations with their core business goals. Without clear governance, integrated roadmaps and strong execution, technology initiatives risk becoming disconnected from the outcomes they are intended to drive.

At The Gunter Group, we see these challenges as opportunities to lead with clarity, empathy and practical insight. By helping clients navigate complexity and build change-ready cultures, we continue to add value in a market that is dynamic and demanding.

CMAG: What impact do you think Best Firm to Work For honors will have on your employees? The firm overall? Clients?
