Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) has appointed Damian Peluso, a former partner in KPMG’s Transaction Services practice, as a Managing Director with its Global Transaction Advisory Group (Global TAG) in Toronto. The move is part of the firm's ongoing effort to scale its presence in Canada, which it formally entered in January 2023.
Peluso’s hiring follows the recent appointment of Patrick Daoust as a Managing Director in Montreal, signaling a concerted push by A&M to build out its senior advisory team in the country. The Canadian expansion is focused on advising clients on M&A, due diligence, and strategic growth, with a particular emphasis on private enterprise and midmarket deals.
For over two decades, Peluso has advised public and private companies on transactions, specializing in succession planning and divestitures for owners and entrepreneurs. At KPMG, he held leadership positions including National Private Enterprise Deals Leader and National Automotive Leader. His industry experience covers sectors such as automotive, manufacturing, health care, and food services.
"Building TAG Canada over the last few years... has been a precise, deliberate expansion of our transaction services across North America," said Paul Aversano, Managing Director and Global Practice Leader of Global TAG. He added that bringing in senior talent is necessary "to guide clients through sharply increasing deal complexity."
Scott Foster, who leads A&M’s TAG Canada Practice, noted that Peluso’s appointment will help the firm meet evolving market demand. Foster also referenced the firm’s ability to operate without the audit conflicts that can affect multidisciplinary firms, a relevant point of differentiation as it recruits talent from the Big Four.
"A&M is a natural fit," Peluso stated. "The firm’s results-driven approach aligns with how I’ve worked with clients my entire career."
