Dr. Hatem Bedair, Director, HKA
Veteran design engineer expands HKA's growing team of forensic engineering experts.
Global consultancy HKA has announced that Hatem Bedair has joined the firm's Forensic Engineering team as a director based in Houston, Texas.
Dr. Bedair has more than 25 years of experience directing and supervising the work of structural design engineers and engineering technicians and reviewing all structural design, fabrication, and erection procedures assigned to design teams. He has also been responsible for project management, preparation of project proposals, contract negotiations, and coordination of the bidding process for projects throughout the United States and Egypt.
Dr. Bedair has extensive experience in the structural analysis and design of bridges and has served as the project engineer for numerous bridge construction, widening and rehabilitation projects. He has overseen the repair of several structurally deficient bridges. Dr. Bedair's experience includes linear and nonlinear finite element analysis, seismic analysis, earthquake-resistant design, friction-damping systems, foundation design, soil-structure interaction and structural design optimization.
At HKA, Dr. Bedair will lead the analysis of highway and bridge design and construction issues and alleged deficiencies, develop expert opinions on the factors that led to a deficiency or failure, and identify the parties responsible. He will also lead the development of forensic engineering reports that summarize the facts, provide analyses and tests performed, and present expert findings and opinions.

Before joining HKA, Dr. Bedair was responsible for reviewing the design, supervising the construction, and serving as the point of contact with the contractor, consultant, and owner for two stadiums in the New Administrative Capital of Egypt and has years of experience at other firms in management or supervisory roles. Dr. Bedair earned a Ph.D. and an MASc in Structural Engineering from Concordia University in Montréal and his BS in Civil Engineering from Helwan University in Cairo, Egypt. Dr. Bedair is a licensed professional engineer and holds numerous licenses in the United States and Canada.
