What do you consider your greatest personal or professional achievement?
It started with joining CrossCountry Consulting as its first international team member shortly after the firm's inception. What was a short-term career decision for me at the time evolved into over 11 years of countless opportunities to leave my footprint on the firm and lay the foundation for others to follow.
A significant milestone on this journey was my relocation to Seattle in early 2019 to explore the market potential for the firm. That same year, CrossCountry secured its first Seattle office space, and the team grew from a single consultant to almost 20 today, with a remarkable 125% revenue growth. Witnessing the continued success of this market because of my efforts and the dedication of the team, while also maintaining the firm culture and providing exceptional client experiences, is my proudest professional accomplishment. It is experiences like these that make me better at what I do, and it inspires me to show up every day. I could not have asked for a more rewarding opportunity.
What's the best advice—consulting or otherwise—you've ever received?
For me, it's a combination of advice that came together over the years. Feedback is a gift; be open to it and seek it out often. Like a gift, it is given to you by someone who cares. It is up to you to decide if or how you would like to apply it. Remember not to overlook positive feedback. It provides insight into your natural strengths and areas of expertise. By capitalizing on these strengths while simultaneously addressing areas of opportunity, you maximize your potential and significantly impact your professional journey.
What advice would you give to a female consultant just beginning her career?
- Believe in yourself: You're here because you've earned it; you belong in every room you enter. It can be easy to fall into imposter syndrome in a demanding field like consulting. Furthermore, as a woman, sharing your ideas and opinions may sometimes feel intimidating, especially in a male-dominated industry. Remember that your unique perspective is valuable and necessary. Stand up for your ideas, and don't be afraid to make your voice heard. Your contributions are essential, and your voice matters.
- Say yes: It's natural to feel apprehension or fear when faced with new and complex challenges, especially those outside your comfort zone. Remember that growth often occurs when we push ourselves beyond what's familiar. Don't shy away from opportunities that scare you; they often provide the most valuable learning experiences. Even if you're unsure about your capabilities, say yes and learn along the way. This willingness to tackle challenges head-on, despite the fear, is what sets great leaders apart. Through these experiences, you'll discover strengths you never knew you had and achieve outcomes you never thought possible.
- Pay it forward: As you climb the ladder, don't forget to lend a hand to those coming up behind you. Whether that's through mentoring, sharing opportunities, or advocating for junior team members, remember how valuable and impactful that guidance can be.
