The increasing role of technology in the business of human relations in the workplace is a forgone conclusion – it will grow, exponentially. Two questions come to mind when contemplating that concept: 1) How much larger will that role become? 2) How it will affect real interaction and advancement of employees?

In an effort to bring together the leaders of our profession and take stock of what has happened during the past three years, Consulting Magazine is hosting a full-day industry summit, Industry Waypoint: Disruption. Evolution. Response., Sept. 14 in New York City. The programming will assess the effects on the consulting sector and investigate how to best navigate the challenges we know still lie ahead.

Perhaps the most pressing technology question of our time will be covered in a discussion titled: Technology Meets Human Behavior – Using AI to Measure Inclusion in the Workplace. This panel will examine the importance of reworking status quo operating systems and the utilization of AI to assess internal processes focused on changing and creating effective programs and processes to advance diversity and inclusion efforts for all organizations.

Susan Freeman, CEO & Founder of Conscious Inclusion Company

"When we look at the intersection between human behavior and technology, how might machine behavior impact equity and equality in the workplace (and our world)," notes Susan Freeman, CEO & Founder of Conscious Inclusion Company.

Can artificial intelligence (AI) help us create more equitable and fulfilling workspaces? Can it more accurately identify unconscious bias when used as a process for advancing DEI initiatives? How do arrangements of people, organizations, information and technology, give rise to complex adaptive phenomena that pose challenges to change?

This panel, moderated by Consulting Magazine Director, Michael A. Webb, includes respected DEI experts from the corporate, education and consulting sectors discussing how arrangements of people, organizations, information and technology, give rise to complex adaptive phenomena posing challenges to firms across the country.

Daphne Turpin Forbes, Assistant General Counsel & Managing Attorney with Microsoft

"While reworking the status quo operating systems is a challenge for our lifetimes, it is a social movement with which we all should engage to advance DEI," says Daphne Turpin Forbes, Assistant General Counsel & Managing Attorney with Microsoft. "Utilizing trustworthy and inclusively designed AI systems to advance DEI is an important starting point to root out biases that can increase the public's confidence and trust. Used responsibly, AI can be an important tool to help organizations operate more equitably, but not without limitations of which we need to be aware and manage."
