Thilo Henkes is a Managing Director and Partner at LEK, leading the firm's global packaging practice, helping lead it from its 2007 inception to one of the most successful subsectors in the firm's industrial practice. Under his leadership, the practice completes over 50 engagements per year around the world, and has advised on more than $14 billion in M&A deals in the global packaging sector over the last three years alone.

With clients and dedicated consulting staff across the U.S., Latin America, Europe, East Asia, and Oceana, Henkes has worked with four of the top six global manufacturers of paper and paperboard, four of the top five global rigid plastics manufacturers, six of the top 10 U.S. makers of flexible plastics, three of the top five U.S. label makers, and six of the top 10 U.S. makers of manufacturing equipment.

Henkes calls being recognized as a Global Leader in Consulting "a great honor," saying it reflects the firm's years of dedication to helping clients solve their most difficult strategic problems.

"The award is especially gratifying because it signifies that our clients view our strategic recommendations as being consistently of the highest quality and impact. There is no higher compliment than when a client commends the work we have done for them. As a firm, our clients' successes are our successes. This award, therefore, is also a reflection of how well our clients have performed and the success of our partnerships with them," he says.

Ask him about the biggest key to his success so far, and Henkes points to the importance of listening at all levels of the organization.

"Success in advisory services requires a team of good listeners. Our success is due in large part to a fantastic team of colleagues who bring a wide range of skills and capabilities, and who are all great listeners." 

Q&A: What would you say are your greatest professional achievements thus far in your career?

"Every consulting project is an achievement, as well as an opportunity to share in the joy of working with great colleagues and great clients.  Each new client relationship is an accomplishment that demonstrates the confidence clients have in our ability to solve their strategic problems. When colleagues decide to join our practice, it reflects a growing interest in working on a winning team and solving the toughest problems for great clients."
