Dr. Sam Hanna is Executive Vice President of Consulting & Innovation and Chief Strategy officer for Divurgent, charged with bringing tangible solutions to key areas of healthcare. He served as a healthcare technology envoy to the middle east, where he spent time in 2019 meeting with heads of state and mentoring several healthcare and technology ministers and teams in the region around artificial intelligence. He's also worked with numerous international healthcare entities and has developed strategies to reimagine healthcare systems and infrastructures in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Starting with building a robust healthcare practice at Deloitte, followed up by building several practices and a first-of-its-kind integrated solutions incubator at PwC. In his academic pursuits, Hanna built a successful health informatics master's program at George Washington University School of Public Health, followed by several successful healthcare programs as an Executive in Residence and Associate Dean at American University.
Hanna says having the opportunity to build great organizations and teams has always been one of the biggest keys to his success throughout his career.
"The common denominators across these achievements were entrepreneurship, tenacity, and resilience. Finally, I completed my Ph.D. in Translational Health at the George Washington University School of Medicine in less than three years and was the first Ph.D. student to defend a dissertation virtually (due to Covid19) in the history of the school."
As for what the recognition as a 2021 Global Leader in Consulting means to him and his clients, Hanna says it means his clients around the globe can further their reach, expanding their knowledge about key drivers and trends impacting the global healthcare system.
"In a continuously connected world, our actions as an individual, an organization, a complex adaptive healthcare system, and as a country, have a tremendous impact. As a consultant, I view my clients' needs with a unique lens that translates knowledge into action and transforms innovation into actionable results that improve the patient experience, reduce costs, and increase access to health. My vision is to scale our healthcare ecosystem globally and to reimagine the future of health."
Q&A: What has been the biggest key to your success so far?
"I attribute my success to understanding my "why", and being keenly aware of the "why" of others. Self-understanding and focusing on creating innovative environments where people thrive and build on their strengths has continuously proven to be conducive to value creation. Personally, my "why" has always been my two children who I adore so much. They drive me to want to leave the world a better place. In my corner of the world, I hope to leave a lasting impact on healthcare for them and our future generations."
