Greencastle Associates Consulting
Excellence in Execution
A former Navy Seal, Joe Crandall joined Greencastle in 2012, and purchased the company in 2019. Since then, the firm, which is composed solely of veterans, has more than doubled in size and increased revenue three-fold. It now competes with some of the biggest names in professional services, leveraging the grit and determination of its transitioning service member workforce.
Crandall is committed to the cause of helping clients solve critical project-based problems by leveraging industry leading methodologies paired with veteran perseverance and tenacity. He's served on numerous boards and committees aimed at helping veterans, and sponsors several associations with the same mission including Bridge the Gap, Team Foster, Pennsylvania National Guard Association, and the Honor Foundation. Crandall is also a US Chamber Hiring our Heroes Sponsor.
Ask him what have been the biggest factors to his success so far, and his answer is two-fold.
"The first significant achievement was to identify and reinforce the key behaviors for how a consultant should operate at Greencastle. Without the Behaviors, ensuring success would be more difficult. Our Behaviors reinforce our culture of trust, accountability and getting stuff done. They reinforce our belief that family comes first, regardless of client deadlines. Our Behaviors also drive our teams to perform faster, more efficiently and more economically than other firms. We encourage each other to be better each day, even if it is a small advancement," he says.
"The second key to my success has been to trust and delegate important tasks to all members of the Greencastle team. Letting go of control is difficult, however it must be done in order for everyone to grow professionally. I trust each team member to do the right thing, to make honest mistakes and learn from those mistakes."
As for what it means to him and Greencastle Associates to be named one of the 2021 Global Leaders in Consulting, Crandall called it a huge testament to the hard work and sacrifice of every member of the firm.
"Being the CEO of such a high performing team is an honor and knowing we are delivering substantial value to our clients is why we do this job. We know our clients work with great consulting firms across the entire spectrum, and with this award, they can rest assured that they are working with a high quality, high performing team."
Q&A: What would you say are your greatest professional achievements thus far in your career?
"The founders of Greencastle set the performance bar extremely high and I believe this award is one indicator that those standards continue to be met. Providing a safe, high performance workplace is a major leadership goal and through diligence and sacrifice, we have been able to create something special. However, the greatest achievement of my career is illustrated in every new day at Greencastle. Each day I begin work, I know that this day will bring new heights, new challenges and new growth opportunities. Each day we have been achieving new 'firsts', not because of me, but because of the team we have assembled. They all come from a military background rooted in leadership and achievement. Leveraging this background to achieve greatness for our clients is no easy task."
