In its eighth acquisition so far in 2020, Cognizant has agreed to acquire Bright Wolf, a privately held technology services firm that specializes in providing custom Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) solutions to Fortune 1000 companies.

"Combining Bright Wolf's experience in production-class IIoT deployments with Cognizant's expertise in foundational IIoT technologies will increase our clients' resiliency, operational efficiency, and competitive advantage," said Malcolm Frank, President, Digital Business, Cognizant. "Companies are increasingly embracing IIoT, and Bright Wolf's team of senior IIoT architects have delivered the business value others have struggled to achieve. We look forward to this talented team joining Cognizant."

Implementing Industrial Internet of Things solutions is no small task, and represents the digitization of many business areas that have traditionally been a lot less high-tech.

The acquisition will give a boost to Cognizant's smart products offerings, particularly around its implementation of IIoT solutions. In support of their endeavors in that realm, Bright Wolf brings to the table expertise on asset performance management, predictive maintenance, and yield optimization.

Cognizant will leverage Bright Wolf's expertise in the following areas:

Connecting Industrial Equipment – Bringing manufacturing machinery into the digital world, connecting them for access to new data-driven services, predictive maintenance, and enhancing customer value.

Optimizing Industrial Operations - Automating and modernizing manufacturing, including supply chain and energy operations with analytics capabilities, AI, and secure cloud connectivity.

Integrating Enterprise Data - Improving the visibility and usefulness of data and operational insights to maximize performance across multi-site machinery, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems.

Leveraging Proprietary Accelerators for IIoT Deployments - Increasing the value of industrial data by connecting more equipment to the cloud and managing fleets at scale.

The deal is slated to close in Q4 2020, subject to closing conditions. Cognizant has made a number of acquisitions this year in support of its mission to accelerate growth in key strategic focus areas like cloud, AI, analytics, software product engineering and IoT.
