Excellence in Technology

Dwight Specht ended up in the consulting profession almost purely by design. He is, by nature, a trouble shooter and fixer of broken systems so consulting was an obvious choice, he says. "I spent the first few years of my career working for banks, then started my own consultancy," Specht says. "At that point, I never looked back."

Doing interesting work that positively benefits awesome teammates and clients is what has motivated him to excel over the course of his career. "I have to feel like my service helps those around me," he says.

And it certainly has. Ask him what professional achievements and accomplishments he's most proud of over the course of his career and he'll say he has three. "First, helping one of the country's largest wireless tower companies integrated a massive acquisition just prior to their initial public offering," Specht says. "Second, starting a consulting academy program—the first in the industry—to hire baccalaureate graduates into EPR and CRM consulting. And lastly, helping build the D&A and Technology capabilities at North Highland—probably one of the greatest companies on the planet."

Part of that, of course, he says, is the people he works with at the firm as well as his clients.

"As much as I'd like to take credit for whatever success I've had, it's been a result of working with amazingly smart and dedicated people rather than some magic on my part," he says. "My experience at North Highland over the last six years is a great example of that."

Gathering fairly deep experience in a variety of industries, embracing the constant change that comes with the learning of new technologies (and how they benefit people in those industries), is what Specht says he enjoys about the profession.

And when it comes to winning Consulting's Top 25 Award, Specht says the attention is a tad embarrassing—I prefer the focus to be on our team rather than me. I'm a little awestruck the company even nominated me."

Q&A: What are you most looking forward to over the next 12 months?

Specht: A few months ago, I might have answered this differently – for now, my colleagues at North Highland and I are looking forward to helping our clients thrive and transform in the current medical and economic environment [of Covid-19].
