When Kapin Vora graduated from college, he was looking to enter the professional world and build a career as a software developer. He had spent four years studying computer science and was looking to pursue a career in that field. But a boutique consulting firm known as BusinessEdge Solutions recruited him to be part of their Technology Consulting practice. "That was my entre into the consulting field, and I have never looked back since."
Today, Vora is a Partner and Head of the NY Metropolitan Client Group. "My consulting profession has kept me consistently challenged through-out my professional life, and that is probably what I've enjoyed the most," he says. "It has also exposed me to incredible people whom I would never have a chance to meet otherwise."
Vora says he's most proud of moments in his career that go across a few different categories: selling and delivering large complex transformations for clients; having the courage to take on large, complex transactions, and grooming the next generation of leaders. "One of the most notable accomplishments was completing the integration of a large bank and investment bank, which gave me a chance to be part of a leadership team that worked and accomplished something monumental in nature," Vora says. "I am generally a self-motivated individual. I enjoy taking on large and complex problems. I do generally believe that anything is possible as long as you believe in it and have a passion for it."
As Vora looks to the future, he says being in the middle of a global pandemic gives you a lot to look forward to over the next several months. "The last few months have crippled the global economy, and this has a direct impact on the consulting industry," he says. "I look forward to helping our clients recover their respective businesses in the new normal."
The biggest factor in his success so far has been my family and my mentors in his life, he says. "The consulting profession is difficult for us as consultants, but it is far more difficult for our families," he says. "If it wasn't for my wife's support, I probably wouldn't be here today.
The mentors that have been critical to my success are mentors at Capco but also my clients. These individuals have taught me to take on very large and complex problems and challenges, and they have had faith in my ability to deliver on my commitments."
Q&A: What does winning Consulting's Top 25 Award mean to you?
Vora: Winning this award is a pivotal moment in my career. I am honored to be one of the top 25 consultants in 2020. For any consultant, this marks one of the most monumental events in their career.
