Excellence in Client Service

Age: 33

Chinmoy Bhatiya is a Managing Principal who says that his success thus far all boils down to the people in his life, both professionally and personally.

Professionally, he's had the pleasure of working with some truly passionate and talented individuals—from Capco and elsewhere. Early in his career, someone told him: "You can never have too many mentors. Don't hesitate to seek them out."

He says it seemed incongruous to him at the start, but it stuck with him, he says. "Everything that I have learned and unlearned in my career has been through my clients, mentors, colleagues, and protégés and there would have been no success without them," Bhatiya says. "Personally, I am blessed with an incredibly supportive crew—my family, my wife and my friends. Their constant love and encouragement kept me going even when I didn't want to, their perspectives enabled me to think outside the box, and their prayers frequently made miracles happen."

Of course, miracles don't come easily. After graduating college, he was looking for a job where he could get a little industry experience. Capco was recruiting, and I submitted his resume for consideration for the Associate Talent Program (ATP). "Initially, I intended for consulting to be a stopgap—to get a bit of real-world experience before going on to pursue a graduate degree. However, I got intoxicated by the intense environment, the complex nature of the work and the personal growth opportunities and never looked back,"

Bhatiya says he likes that he encounters a lot of change as a consultant. "People change, strategy change, regulatory change, technology change—change never ends, and I love that," he says. "I love dealing with the complexity, the uncertainty, and the chaos that it brings. Sometimes you're prepared for change through your training, your knowledge base, your team—that's easy. When you have to adapt to change that no one has ever encountered—now that's exciting!"

Ask him about the best advice he's ever received and Bhatiya will say: "You can't know everything! It's so simple, yet so profound. It's a constant reminder to me of two things—one, that you cannot be knowledgeable and intelligent about everything—it's not a solo act. We must collaborate and assemble the right team around us for the job," he says. "Second, it's a reminder about work ethic – no one can be naturally talented at everything, and where our natural talent lets us down, we must compensate with perseverance and old-fashioned blood, sweat and tears."

Q&A: What does winning a Rising Stars of the Profession award mean to you?

Bhatiya: "It's an unparalleled honor to be given such recognition, and I am humbled by it. At the risk of sounding cliche, it will take me a while to consider myself worthy of being in such rarified air. That being said, I feel that winning this award will push me to expect higher standards from myself as an advisor, a leader and a learner."
