Grant Thornton
Excellence in Influence
Ask Rahul Kapur what accomplishments he's most proud of over the course of his career and he'll say that spending 19 years in the field of management consulting is an achievement in itself! "I take pride in the fact that some of the clients I serviced in the initial years of my career continue to work with me now," he says. I have also been a part of a great journey with Grant Thornton in India."
When Kapur started his tenure with the firm in 2004, it was a 70-member strong team with two offices in India. "It is indeed a sense of achievement to see the firm with 5,600 personnel with 16 offices across India," he says. "To witness and be a contributor to this unprecedented growth gives me immense confidence as a professional to take up challenging tasks."
At Grant Thornton India, Kapur leads the management consulting practice of the firm and is responsible for managing client relationships with some of the largest clients of the firm. His consulting experience spans across geographies and has successfully implemented assignments in Italy, Spain, England, USA, Dubai, Egypt, Kuwait, Israel, Kenya and Ghana besides India.
"The year gone by has been financially stressed for most economies. I too, faced challenges in converting conversations with clients into engagements and to keep the team and myself occupied with revenue generating work," he says. "However, the relationships I built over the tenure of my professional services career kept me afloat and the confidence most of my clients had in me being their trusted advisor, helped me secure some large engagements."
In addition, he says he is particularly proud of the relationships he's built with most of his clients, which he was able to leverage in times of stress. "I am also thankful and very proud about the fact that in addition to paying my invoices, my clients also nominate me for global awards!"
And when it comes to winning a Global Leader in Consulting award, Kapur says the "recognition reinforces my confidence that I am doing the right thing for my team, clients and the firm. Likewise, for my firm and clients, this recognition should reinforce their confidence in me!"
However, he is quick to point out that he is only as good as his team. "I owe my success to my team. All consulting engagements are a team effort," he says. "I have had the privilege and good fortune of working with a team which has stood by me for over a decade. All of us have grown together adding experience and credentials and stood by each other in good and rough times. The binding force to keep us together has been brand 'Grant Thornton'. Hence, the biggest factor to my success has been my team and Grant Thornton."
Q&A: What do you enjoy most about your work and the consulting profession?
"The fact that I get to meet people from diverse back-grounds, cultures and professions and get an opportunity to form lasting relationships. A phone call or a note from my client suggesting 'job well-done' and for them to keep seeking me out repeatedly over years!"
