Consulting: What were the main factors that contributed to your firm's exceptional growth?

Murray: In 2019, we built upon our focus on clients by bringing clients in to be part of our service innovation earlier and to a greater extent than ever before. We introduced new and in-demand consulting offerings that have a significant, lasting impact on our clients' operations. An example of these new services is the addition of solutions for smaller operations and entrepreneurial start-ups. Like their larger counterparts, these companies are looking for expertise to supplement their internal staff and provide specialized knowledge. This year, we also continued to expand the consulting subscriptions we offer in transportation, environmental health and safety, and hazardous materials.

Consulting: How is this year shaping up for your firm?

Murray: This has been a great year for our clients and for J. J. Keller. Companies want to give their employees best-in-class safety management programs and effective compliance processes, and they recognize the expansive expertise at J. J. Keller. To ensure we are positioned to support the continued growth of our Consulting organization, we added a Director of Consulting to our team, and have grown our nationwide team of staff consultants.

Consulting: How would you describe your firm's outlook for 2020? 

Murray: Our outlook for 2020 is extremely positive. We expect our continued innovation in consulting services to continue, especially in the areas of environmental health and safety. These opportunities stand out because of the specific nature of the regulatory requirements, and because of emerging safety topics such as active shooter/active threat and workplace violence.

Consulting:  What are your firm's biggest challenges in 2020?

Murray: Our biggest challenge at J. J. Keller is a challenge we've put before ourselves: In a world where change is occurring at unprecedented speed, we will be at the forefront of what our clients need to run safe and respectful workplaces. We commit to anticipating our clients' needs, thinking about solutions in new ways and bringing those solutions to market more quickly than ever before
