Emergent Method is a Louisiana-based firm known for solving problems and tackling complex issues for organizations across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. Nick Speyrer, President of the firm sat down with Consulting to discuss the firm's financial performance, overall outlook and its No. 7 ranking.
Consulting: What were the main factors that contributed to your firm's exceptional growth?
Speyrer: We attribute our growth, across all business units and consulting disciplines, to one main factor: emphasis on building meaningful client relationships. We believe what differentiates us from competitors, and what ultimately has led to our success, is that we focus on building trusted and lasting partnerships with our clients. We want to be their go-to partner and problem solver, supporting them in developing high-level strategies and then serving as an extension of their team in execution and implementation.
Consulting: How is this year shaping up for your firm?
Speyrer: We are off to a great start. While we've wrapped up several large-scale engagements in 2019, we have refilled the pipeline with a number of new and ongoing projects of significant size with impact spanning across the country. To sustain our growth and further support our clients, we've focused on diversifying our book of business across consulting disciplines, as well as across geographic boundaries.
Consulting: How would you describe your firm's outlook for 2020?
Speyrer: Our outlook for 2020 remains strong with a client base that continues to grow and diversify, as well as with many of the same clients we started with in 2012. More specifically, given our Louisiana roots and the fact that our home state is a global leader in resilience, coastal planning, and disaster recovery, we hope to leverage our extensive expertise in these spaces to help other areas and businesses across the U.S. plan for a more resilient future. As our team likes to say, we believe the best is yet to come for Emergent Method.
Consulting: What would you say are your biggest challenges in 2020?
Speyrer: Building up internal operations will be our biggest challenge going into 2020. Over the past year, we've recognized and prioritized streamlining our internal operations and support systems to ensure the necessary structures are in place to continue to scale our business and better support our clients. Additionally, as our team continues to grow, we will need ensure we've got the ability to adapt and scale up and grow smartly. It is critical that we continue to maintain the unique culture we have built and the shared commitment we have to our clients' success and to one another.
Consulting: What does being named a Fastest Growing Firm mean to your firm, employees and clients?
Speyrer: We're honored to be recognized as one of Consulting's Fastest Growing Firms for the second year in a row. But we also recognize we are only successful when our clients are successful. Our hope is that those clients—especially those who have trusted us from the very beginning—will view this award as theirs as much as it is ours, because we could not have reached this milestone without them. This honor also means a great deal to our team members, who work incredibly hard and are committed to our success. Our success is only possible because of the progress our community and state have achieved over the years, allowing us to be entrepreneurial and build something special right here where many of our team members either grew up or have deep family roots. And we still believe the best is yet to come.
