This year marks the fourth time in five years Houston-based Myrtle Consulting Group has been among the Best Small Firms to Work For.

Edwin Bosso, Founder and CEO, credits much of the firm's positive vibes and morale to the fact that Myrtle is a fast growing firm. Indeed, Myrtle has also been a mainstay on Consulting's annual Fastest Growing Firms list.

This year and next are on target to be significant growth years for Myrtle with a strong pipeline in place, Bosso says. "Our global reach is bearing fruit, and we continue to expand our industry clientele. As we grow, we continue to bring great talent on board and develop our existing talent," Bosso says.

To that end, the firm launched its "Myrtle Millennial" college recruiting program to bring young talent into the field and further develop them. In addition, "we are conducting an initiative to encourage women to enter the operational consulting field and advance the careers of those already with us."

Meanwhile, morale at Myrtle is excellent, Bosso says. He attributes much of that to the fact that the business is growing. "We provide meaningful opportunities to employees and our leadership team spends a lot of effort, ensuring that our employees understand our strategy beyond the headlines," he says. "The fact that they understand the general context of our strategic challenges and priorities contributes to their alignment with our vision."

Bosso says execution of Myrtle's growth and geographical expansion strategy will continue to be its focus over the next 12 months. "Our geographic and industry sector diversification is central to that focus," he says. "Myrtle's client-facing focus remains paramount, as does our delivery of great transformation programs. Our core values and culture are essential to who we are, what we do, and why we do it.  We never want to outgrow that or lose sight of improving the lives and operations of our clients. We are simply looking to do it for more of them, both domestically and abroad."

As for the recognition of, once again, being among the Best Small Firms to Work For, Bosso says the ranking accomplishes several things. "It is a clear signal to our leaders that although our number of employees is growing fast, our commitment to Myrtle employees, their development, and our core values is well worth the effort," he says. "As one can imagine, the ranking is also a signal to the employment market that true opportunities exist to be part of something big at Myrtle. In addition, our continued growth provides an excellent foundation to build a career. Our clients take note in this ranking, as well. They recognize the investment in our people, the desire to continue building the best, highly motivated teams to help them face their challenges."

Were there any specific programs that contributed to being one of the Best Small Firms to Work For?

Bosso: My belief is that the award is the result of a combination of things.  First, I would say our commitment to our internal values. Second, I am of the conviction that intent matters. This accomplishment confirms that our employees see us as leaders working restlessly to hear and articulate to them where we are going and how they fit in the picture. Employees see their peers working hard to live up to the values that the entire Myrtle family lives by. We believe in each other and work hard for each other.
