This year marks six consecutive years on the Best Firms to Work For list for Chicago-based RSM, as well as the second year in a row as the No. 9 firm on the list.
"It's an exciting time at RSM and morale is very high," says Brian Becker, National Consulting Leader for RSM. "All five of our consulting service lines continue to grow rapidly and the demand for our expertise shows no signs of slowing."
For team members, that growth brings exposure to limitless career opportunities, Becker says. "We encourage our team members to fully explore their interests and to map a career path that reflects their goals and passions," he says. "RSM combines extensive professional development opportunities for our employees with a commitment to community outreach, including our firm-wide volunteer day and our Culture, Diversity and Inclusion team."
Becker says RSM wants to help its team members develop as professionals but also as strong contributors to the firm's culture and to the communities in which they live. "It's a perspective our employees appreciate," he says. "We offer an unbeatable combination of culture and opportunity. Our capabilities, which continue to expand, are that of a large firm. But our culture, as inclusion on this list helps confirm, is reflective of a much smaller organization."
Ask Becker about his priorities over the next 12 months and he'll say RSM's top priority is to continue to attract new professionals to help meet the needs of a growing client base. "Fortunately, we feel we have a great value proposition to offer—from a culture that our team members value to a firm that is brimming with new opportunities," he says.
Indeed, with issues like regulatory changes, technology opportunities and cybersecurity threats, RSM's clients continue to face a historic level of disruption. "Because of our expertise and the ongoing labor shortage, they continue to turn to us for help in overcoming these hurdles and in taking advantage of the opportunities available to them," Becker says. "It's an exciting environment in which to operate and we're honored our clients continue to turn to us for an ever-expanding list of services."
And when it comes to being recognized as one of the Best Firms to Work For, Becker says it's an important endorsement for the great culture they've built at RSM. "It also helps confirm what we hear from people who join RSM from elsewhere: our culture is a differentiator," he says. "We take pride in that and it helps us attract both new employees and new clients. Clients appreciate working with service providers who enjoy their work and feel valued."
On the survey, the firm excelled in the areas of Work/Life Balance and Culture. Why do you think that is?
Becker: I think in both cases it's a reflection of the emphasis we place on Work/Life Balance and our Culture. RSM has always had a reputation as a great place to build a career, but it's not something we take for granted. We're committed to supporting and promoting the elements of a good work/life balance that our employees value. That includes flexible work options, professional development resources and charitable and community-based outreach opportunities via the RSM Foundation and other programs. We all are happier and more effective when our lives are in balance.
