September brings with it many things: the end of the summer, back to school time, pumpkin-spice season and, around here, Consulting's annual Best Firms to Work For issue. It's that time when we get intimately involved with color-coded columns and tabs on spreadsheets, and it's when we pay close attention to data and decimal points. It's when the difference between the tenths and hundredths column can mean a place on the Best Firms List or not.
Analysts with ALM Intelligence do the heaviest lifting. They spend days crunching the numbers to make sense of it all. And this year we even made the task a little more difficult for them by expanding the rankings for both The Best Firms to Work For and The Best Small Firms To Work For lists by five. So, rather than 15 firms in each category, we're recognizing 20. Any why not? The Best Firms to Work For is more popular than ever. With over 325 firms participating and more than 11,000 survey responses it seemed like the perfect time to expand. And all those decimal points add up to the single most important thing Consulting magazine does every single year—the final ranking of the profession's Best Firms to Work For.
That's why we're devoting 46 pages to coverage of The Best Firms to Work For and the Best Small Firms to Work For. And it's a fascinating read. After all, we've featured the best of the best in this issue, and we've talked to firm leaders and assembled firm profiles to hear just how these 40 firms manage to be the best. It also allows us a platform to reward and recognize the profession's elite. This year, the top honors go to the Boston Consulting Group for the sixth consecutive year. And as far as the Best Small Firms to Work For, it's the first time for Clearsulting!
And once the dust settles on the 40 winning firms, there's plenty of other stories to be discovered in the data. If you're interested in hearing more about our custom data cuts, let me know at the e-mail below.
