So what's a C-level exec to do? In our cover story this month, business writer Eric Krell takes a good, hard look at cybersecurity and the consultant's role in Locking Down Data. In it, Krell says digital transformation brings digital risk. And with data everywhere, breaches are inevitable… and becoming all too common. It's no wonder cybersecurity consulting practices are booming. Is yours?
Krell takes a deep dive into the cybersecurity practices of the profession's top firms and comes away with more than a few observations and even a few battle plans for firms struggling to wrap their arms around cybersecurity and all it encompasses. But one thing is clear: The opportunities are out there for firms properly positioned for success.
Specific areas in need of attention, Krell writes, include application and data security, incident response practices and identity management. When cybersecurity consulting leaders discuss these engagements, other focal points loom large as enablers of successful consulting engagements—the board, the trenches and third parties.

Speaking of properly positioned for success, this issue highlights our 11th annual Top 25 Consultants Gala at the Mandarin Oriental in New York. It was a fabulous evening all around, highlighted by A.T. Kearney's Paul Laudicina receiving this year's Lifetime Achievement Award. The icing on the cake was a surprise letter from Vice President Joe Biden, a personal friend of Laudicina from his days working in the U.S. Senate, congratulating Paul on his award. Good stuff, indeed. Photos of the evening begin on Page 20.
