The 2019 Rising Stars of the Profession: Harvind Raman

Ask Harvind Raman, a Director at Alix Partners about the best advice he's ever received and he'll say that it was when someone pointed out to him early on that consulting is a human business—not a transactional business.

That lesson has served him well throughout his career and has led to many successes. The latest, of course, being named on Consulting's Rising Stars of the Profession for Excellence in Operation Management.

But ask him to narrow it down to just one accomplishment and he says that he really can't do that.

"There is no one single achievement. It's delivering impactful client work, when the client is in trouble that I'm in this profession for," he says. "The moment when I wrap up an engagement and realize that me and my team have impacted a client's business in a positive way makes me the proudest."

What he likes most about consulting, is "challenging problems, fast-paced environment and working with smart folks in an intellectually stimulating environment," he says.

He credits "being at the right place and right time," as one of the biggest keys to his success. He says that because AlixPartners has provided him "a breadth of opportunities for me to grow and push myself to be ambitious. Combined with hard work and a strong team around me, I've been positioned for success," Raman says. "This is true with many of the consultants in the firm."

This may also be true for being named one of the Rising Stars of the Profession, Raman says that it just means that the firm has really good people who take interest in each other's career and have recognized him for this award.

"I'm sure there are many more qualified candidates at AlixPartners, just that I was lucky to be nominated," he says.
