Berkeley Research Group
Excellence in Execution
Philip Rowley says he has been very fortunate in his career to have been presented many opportunities for success. "I am most proud that I have found ways to continue to improve, in particular as a leader and a mentor," he says. "Furthermore, I am proud that I was able to successfully progress through the various professional services career stages, from being technically proficient, to managing a project, to presenting the findings, all of which culminates in being able to drive client relationships and being responsible for the firm's overall success. I can't say I am or was the best at each level, but I am very proud of what I learned and continue to learn."
Philip Rowley is the Executive Director and Chief Revenue Officer for Berkeley Research Group. He is passionate about the convergence of sales, marketing, and business development and currently focuses on enhancing and empowering client success and sales enablement teams and their respective skills.
One recent accomplishment that stands out was the inspirational, and at some times therapeutic, completion of BRG's brand "discovery process," which involved balancing the investment in the firm's incredible individual brands in conjunction with the overall, and relatively new, BRG brand.
"My team and I have spent the past year working to define the firm's essence—"intelligence that works"—which reflects how we harness our collective capabilities to provide the insights and practical strategies our clients need to stay ahead of what's next," he says.
Ask Rowley about the biggest factor to his success and he'll say he's been very fortunate to have put himself into challenging opportunities, which enhanced his knowledge base and skills. "As for personal traits, I am naturally curious and an intent listener, both of which have served me very well throughout my career," he says. "Though in some cases, the successes I have had were simply due to perseverance."
As his family, friends and colleagues will attest, Rowley is competitive and driven by nature. "This does not mean I have a winning at all costs mentality, but rather I make sure I am giving my complete attention to any endeavor thrown my way," he says. "I always want us to do our best. Just as importantly, so much of my personal success has been achieved because someone trusted me to help or solve a problem."
Q&A: What does being recognized as a Global Leader in Consulting mean to you? Your firm? Your clients?
Rowley: Being recognized as a Global Leader in Consulting is most meaningful to me because it reflects my personal generational leadership experience. At different points in my career, I benefited from great leadership and today I am both using and trying to impart those learnings. The award has allowed me to both reflect upon and re-commit to leadership. BRG is very proud because much of this recognition is based on what we as a firm have accomplished these past few years—this is very much of a team award.
