Protiviti
Excellence in Execution
When it comes to a career in consulting, Andrew Clinton finds there are a couple of unique aspects to it. One, he enjoys building things, especially in a business environment, and finds this gives him a strong sense of pride. Second, he enjoys the variety of the work he gets to do day in and day out, he says.
Our clients have varying problems and our challenge is to find equally varied solutions, each tailored to fit the exact situation," Clinton says. "Also, I am lucky enough to work with a wide variety of people, both inside and outside of the firm, who come from many different cultures and have many different interests."
Clinton is Protiviti's Executive VP of International Operations. Based in London, he has accountability for all the firm's operations in Europe and Asia Pacific and responsibility for Protiviti's network of member firms in Latin America, the Middle East and India. He was previously responsible for the U.K. operation, the European operation and, while based in Sydney, he was the market lead for financial services in Asia-Pacific.
Clinton has more than 30 years of experience advising clients on strategy, business governance and large-scale change management. His primary focus is on ensuring that clients receive high quality, high value assistance from Protiviti wherever that need arises. Most recently, that has been achieved through assisting clients with managing change driven by regulatory matters, cybersecurity threats and digitalization.
In the beginning of the year, Clinton says both he and the firm had two clear objectives, and both were accomplished.
"Protiviti has won considerably more projects where it has been able to help global clients solve global problems with global solutions. Increasingly, our consultants work for the same clients across multiple countries," he says. "Protiviti has experienced excellent revenue growth over the last 12 months, throughout the world."
Meanwhile, longer-term accomplishments he points to include "helping global organizations—along with my colleagues—primarily in the financial services industry, become more effective at running themselves while taking into full consideration country and cultural differences; continuing to remain relevant to our clients and our people in a fast-changing world; and, building successful teams and businesses around the world."
He says the biggest factors to his success includes an ability to see many different points of view, and an interest in aligning those people with different views to a common purpose—diplomacy. "As someone who studied economics, I was always attracted to the '3D factor model' determining success—drive, determination and doggedness," he says. "With 'diplomacy,' perhaps it is a 4D factor model for me."
Q&A: What does being recognized as a Global Leader in Consulting mean to you? Your firm? Your clients?
Clinton: Appreciation that I, and all the other Protiviti leaders I work with, are recognized for the effort we put in helping our clients, our people and our firm.
