Excellence in Financial Services
Serge Malka says there are four main factors that have been big drivers of his success: "The individuals who have been on my team over the years; these great relationships have turned into successful teams," he says. "The association of two opposite drivers: Innovation/Creation and Delivery rigor." Meanwhile, embracing a 'work hard; play hard' attitude and finally, "last but not least, the support and understanding of my family."
Malka is the Capital Markets and Risk Practice Co-Leader for Cognizant Business Consulting in North America since 2014. Over the last 20 years, he has specialized in trading and risk management. He has conducted many organizational, regulatory and IT projects with a strong European footprint. Malka has worked for CIBs, brokers, asset managers, clearers, corporate players. He conducted for them organizational, regulatory assessment and conformance projects, as well as IT projects.
His recent work touched both on regulatory transformation and compliance (CCAR, FRTB, CECL) as well as F/O digital transformation, leveraging the human centered approach championed by Idea Couture with whom he partnered for a U.S. client.
"I'm very proud of my work with clients on key risk/regulatory programs while embracing digital transformation and human experience in the capital markets' space and introducing these to the risk universe as well," he says. One of my main motivators is the need I constantly feel to bring better results to my clients and to create a better environment to my teams."
It's probably no surprise then, that Malka lists "having built successful consulting teams" as one of his proudest accomplishments over the course of his career. "Having built successful consulting teams in very different market segments, environments—from giant companies to start-ups—and countries has been one of the more rewarding achievements of my career," he says.
Malka started his career as a derivatives dealer at LCF Rothschild in Paris and then worked for most of his career in consulting at Andersen Consulting in London and Frankfurt, PwC consulting/IBM and since 2007 at Equinox Consulting, which was acquired in 2013 by Cognizant. He holds a Master's degree from ESSEC business school and gained Modelling and Quantitative Analysis knowledge at Paris University.
Ask him what he enjoys most about consulting, and he'll quickly cite three things: problem solving; new relationships—colleagues, clients and partners; and, new concepts.
All have undoubtedly served him well over the course of his long, and distinguished, career.
Q&A: What does winning the Top 25 award mean to you, your firm and your clients?
Malka: "Winning Consulting Magazine's Top 25 award is a great honor for myself but also for my team and their hard work and efforts. For Cognizant, winning the Top 25 award is evidence that we're on the right track in our journey to build Cognizant Consulting. For our clients, most probably and rightfully, increased demands in terms of quality and uniqueness of approaches!"
