Excellence in Leadership

Larry Neiterman was recently named Chief Operating Officer for Deloitte Consulting where his responsibilities include oversight for overall consulting operational and financial performance. He has shared responsibility for reviewing and monitoring any potential acquisitions and major investments for the consulting organization.

"I look forward to the new challenges, opportunities and future successes," he says. As COO, I've been proud to help Deloitte Consulting through the successful execution of more than 20 acquisitions and three global ventures."

Larry represents Deloitte Consulting LLP on the U.S. Operating Committee, and he plays a similar role representing global consulting on the global operating committee. He's been with Deloitte Consulting for more than 35 years and led the Life Sciences and Health Care (LS&HC) practice for 10 years—leading it to its current market leadership position.

"I led Deloitte Consulting's Life Sciences and Health Care Practice through a period of hyper-growth to the number one position that they still hold today, as well as being in a leadership position with Deloitte Consulting when they also became the market leader," he says. "Earlier in my career I was privileged to lead numerous healthcare clients through successful mergers and acquisitions and the development of their strategic plans."

His personal areas of expertise include strategic planning, mergers and merger integration, and operations consulting. His client service efforts have been focused on helping many of the practice's most significant LS&HC clients.

"The last 12 months have been an extraordinary time for Deloitte Consulting—we've truly been able to achieve significant growth in a challenging market environment and, at the same time, build our business across many levels and provide interesting and challenging careers for some amazing people," Neiterman says. "But the achievements of which I am most proud are the innovative and successful results we have achieved for our clients and their businesses."

Neiterman says he really does enjoy helping clients solve problems. "It's extremely gratifying to me to see the success of my clients and having been a part of that success."

He says his success has always benefited from the good fortune to assemble great teams that work very hard and are made up of people with complementary strengths. "I took to heart one of the leadership mantras of our Chairman and CEO, Janet Foutty, who says 'Surround yourself with the best people and let them lift you and each other and the results will follow'."

As for being named one of the Top 25 Consultants, Neiterman says "it's a nice recognition for me personally and for Deloitte Consulting overall. To be among this group of outstanding people is a true honor."

Q&A: What motivates you to excel?

Neiterman: "I probably shouldn't admit this in public, but I am a very competitive person naturally. To be fair, I am mostly competing against myself. I have committed to life-long learning and I am driven by improving what I have to offer my clients and the firm."
