Kevin Mackey  / Point B

Excellence in Technology

Kevin Mackey is proud of many things, among them: helping amazing clients impact the world through technology and data analytics. "I'm proud that my team has become increasingly more diverse—across several dimensions—over the past year, and has become more effective as a result," he says. "I'm proud of playing a role in the evaluation, acquisition and integration of the Point B Digital Studio, our first-ever company acquisition. It enables us to deliver new kinds of value to our clients related to Digital Customer Experience & Loyalty."

Mackey says he's also proud of helping many of Point B's people architect and launch exciting new careers within the firm.

And all that's just over the course of the last 12 months. Over the course of his entire career, he says he's proud of incubating and launching Point B's BI & Analytics practice 8-plus years ago; he's proud of building and leading a team of amazing technology professionals who deliver real value to scores of clients every day, and who do it with great leadership, heart and passion; and, he's proud of building and leading a Business Intelligence & Analytics Leadership Community in Seattle, where leaders from 40+ organizations across the Puget Sound region have been collaborating, learning and building relationships for the past five years.

Kevin Mackey is Point B's National Director of Technology Solutions. He has 20 years of business technology and analytics leadership experience across multiple industries and, prior to his current role, Mackey was responsible for the development and leadership of Point B's BI & Data Analytics practice, the leadership of Point B's National Business Technology Consulting practice and co-leadership for the acquisition and integration of Point B's Digital Studio.

"I love the variety. I get to serve hundreds of clients across the country and, soon, beyond," Mackey says. "I love bringing the collective expertise of many people together to solve new problems. And I love building new capabilities, solutions and delivery models to benefit our clients and our people."

What's been the biggest factor to his success? Striking a balance of breadth and focus— building a foundation of multi-disciplinary skills and mental models from business, technology, history, faith, science and more, and then applying this foundation to focus on specific challenges and opportunities.

"Having a clear sense of core values, and letting those values guide my decisions and investments. One example is authenticity, which is my best competitive advantage," he says. "And having a healthy, stimulating, energy-giving life outside of work."

And as far as winning the Top 25 award, Mackey says it's recognition that Point B is a great company, with exceptional people, who serve amazing clients. "This award belongs to the amazing Technology & Data Analytics consultants at Point B."

Q&A: What motivates you to excel?

Mackey: "I think about business as a game to be practiced, played, enjoyed and ideally won. If the game isn't fun, it's not worth playing. My colleagues at Point B motivate me through their excellent service to our clients, which inspires me to evolve and be better. Family and legacy is a motivator. My biggest goal is to have a great relationship with all of my great-grandchildren. When I work backwards from that vision, it guides a lot of my decisions and serves as a great motivator to excel."
