The 2018 Rising Stars of the Profession: Tiara Kawahara Shiell

Tiara Kawahara Shiell is a senior member of L.E.K. Consulting's Life Sciences sector, where she collaborates with C-level executives on the most critical strategic issues while leveraging her technical background to interface with clinical/scientific experts. She has led dozens of engagements covering a range of issues including corporate growth strategy, product commercialization, R&D portfolio prioritization, and transaction support.

"I am proud of the level of impact and speed my work has had on the lives of patients and the broader healthcare industry," Shiell says. "I am equally proud of my contributions developing and coaching team members as they flourish and find success."

Shiell works with companies ranging from emerging venture-funded companies to leading global biopharma companies. Her dual strengths of scientific expertise and business acumen are a powerful combination in serving life sciences clients.

"I work hard and will continue to look for opportunities to improve," she says. "I've also have been fortunate to have mentors at L.E.K, family and friends that both empower and challenge me."

Based in Los Angeles, Shiell joined the firm in 2010 and has rapidly progressed to the position of Senior Engagement Manager.

She listens to her mentees and leverages her experience to understand the issues, consider their unique skills and goals, and identify valuable, executable solutions. "My colleagues at L.E.K. and clients are creative, intelligent and inspiring," she says. "I enjoy collaborating and learning from this diverse set of individuals as we solve complex problems together."

As far as winning a Rising Stars of the Profession award, Shiell says she is "humbled and believes it represents a combination of hard work and support from talented and inspiring colleagues, family and friends."
