PotomacWave incorporates two concepts: Potomac, the "nation's river", and Wave, the firm's energy to boldly challenge the status quo. Founded in 2007 and headquartered in Alexandria, Va., PotomacWave is a woman-owned government contractor/consultancy specializing in program management, intelligence analysis and operations, technology, engineering and logistics, and financial management. PotomacWave just celebrated its 10-Year anniversary in October and throughout the company's history the firm has consistently been part of its greater communities. "Our consultants founded the PotomacWave Outreach Program—POP—with a mission to engage our workforce to promote impactful and sustainable benefits to our community through service, mentorship and collaboration with other charities and nonprofits," says President CarrieAnne Boak. Boak sat down to discuss the firm's performance.
Consulting: What were the main factors that contributed to your firm's growth?
Boak: PotomacWave has differentiated ourselves through our reputation for excellence and innovation in high-stakes and technically-complex programs for Federal and State Government entities. Our growth is a direct reflection of the results we have achieved for our clients.
Consulting: How is this year shaping up for your firm?
Boak: PotomacWave had a great "Government Fiscal-Year-end" and in the last month alone, we were awarded new contracts to support U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the U.S. Coast Guard as well as new BPAs at the Department of Treasury, Department of Energy, and Department of Interior.
Consulting: How would you describe your firm's outlook for 2018? Where do you see the most opportunities?
Boak: PotomacWave's largest clients include the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security which consistently receive federal funding and budget priority. We continue to see opportunities in our market as the missions are steadfast and include preventing terrorism and enhancing security, safeguarding and securing cyberspace, and ensuring resilience to disasters.
Consulting: What would you say are your firm's biggest challenges in 2018?
Boak: Our corporate culture is entrepreneurial and high energy. We encourage our employees to "Be Bold" in their approach to supporting clients, taking initiative, and furthering their own careers. PotomacWave has an amazing company culture that we have been able to preserve throughout our growth to a $60 million company. As we move ahead to 2018 and beyond, a top corporate priority for us is to ensure that we maintain our great culture.
Consulting: What does being named one of Consulting's Fastest Growing Firms mean to your firm, your employees and your clients?
Boak: Being named one of Consulting's Fastest Growing Firms is a huge honor, especially as this is an industry-wide award that is not just limited to the Government Contracting marketplace. Receiving this recognition is a reflection of dedication and hard work of the amazing consultants that are PotomacWave.
