Pace Harmon is a business transformation and outsourcing advisory services firm providing guidance on complex transactions, process and operational optimization, and provider governance. Founded in 2003 and headquartered in Tysons Corner, Va. with offices in Chicago and San Francisco, Pace Harmon provides pragmatic and insightful advice that helps its client base of Fortune 500 and other large enterprises maximize the benefits achieved from their mission-critical supplier relationships. Steve Martin, Executive Managing Director, sat down with Consulting to talk about Pace Harmon's performance.

Consulting: What were the main factors that contributed to your firm's growth?

Martin: First and foremost our continued growth can be directly attributed to our commitment to Pace Harmon's founding principles. This includes a client-first philosophy; underpinned by a combination of highly qualified consulting and industry experienced practitioners; and, rolling up our sleeves while working side by side with our clients at all levels of their organizations. Secondly, our core delivery model is a key differentiator that continues to help win new business and execute our services.

Consulting: How is this year shaping up for your firm?

Martin:  Year over year, the leading indicators for our success have been the number of active Fortune 500 clients and $1M+ projects on our roster and both of these metrics continue to be on the rise. With an increase in new clients, we expect continued solid performance throughout 2017 and 2018 with a number of transformative projects across IT and business functions.

Consulting: Where do you see the most opportunities?

Martin:  We remain bullish and are well positioned for continued growth. We are focused both on working with our current client base on ongoing long term and new projects as well as securing work with prospective clients leveraging our transformation experience to grow our footprint. We just recruited our largest campus-based class to date—from some of the most prestigious schools in the country – and we have more resources with directly relevant and comprehensive transformational experience than ever.

Consulting: What are your biggest challenges in 2018?

Martin:  Our top challenge is identifying and hiring top quality resources who can help us keep up with demand, but our move to an employee-owned ESOP model has positively impacted our recruiting prospects and we expect it will continue to help us compete for top talent—as it has this past year. Secondly, with the myriad and ever-evolving technology platforms in the marketplace, we need to continue to assess the distribution of our investments in human resources, thought leadership, and product analysis.

Consulting: What does being named one of Consulting's Fastest Growing Firms mean to your firm, your employees and your clients?

Martin: This recognition validates the vitality and health of our business, our marketplace success and the career opportunities we provide to each and every member of our team. Since inception, our firm and our employees have consistently indexed towards high quality client service and client satisfaction above all else.
