Acquis is a global consulting firm specializing in strategy and implementation. "We help ambitious organizations solve business challenges that enable sustainable growth and healthy efficiency," says CEO and Managing Partner David Kaufman. "We do this by not just designing strategies but also putting them to work." Consulting caught up with Kaufman to discuss the firm.
Consulting: What were the main factors that contributed to your firm's growth?
Kaufman: As a generalist firm, we've consistently realized growth from our core areas of expertise. Over the past three years, we invested heavily in expanding two areas, Life Sciences and Technology Solutions, both of which have grown significantly. Historically, we've been successful in obtaining repeat business from our clients based on the quality of work we deliver, the strength of our teams, and the passion we demonstrate in collaborating with our clients.
Consulting: How is this year shaping up for your firm?
Kaufman: Over the prior three years, we realized exceptional growth of 30 to 40 percent each year. This year, we're tracking a more a modest increase as the business areas that helped us grow have started to mature and we've begun to invest in new areas. Our success over the past few years has allowed us to invest in building out areas of future growth, including our UK office and our procurement practice. We're also expanding our Technology Solutions implementation support to include more technology providers.
Consulting: Where do you see the most opportunities?
Kaufman: We expect significant growth in 2018. We have several big priorities and it's difficult to single out one as the largest. Over the past few years, we've maintained our core areas of delivery while building out adjacent practices with significant potential for growth. We added senior industry experts to our teams, enabling us to have continued strategic conversations with existing and new clients. In addition, we have active growth in London and San Francisco, and we're growing several key partnerships with other consulting, software, and startup companies.
Consulting: What would you say are your firm's biggest challenges in 2018?
Kaufman: We're always balancing our ability to provide the most experienced resources for our clients while at the same time providing our employees different and exciting opportunities in their careers. With a number of areas of functional expertise, we will need to continue to work hard to ensure our resources are appropriately cross-trained and staffed to ensure project success, while at the same time enabling our employees to grow on each project.
Consulting: What does being named one of Consulting's Fastest Growing Firms mean to your firm, your employees and your clients?
Kaufman: While our firm's mantra is "People First, we also strive to be a successful and profitable organization. This enables our employees to be compensated well and for our firm to make investments that enable future success and growth. Being selected as one of Consulting Magazine's Best Small Firms to Work For, 7 Small Jewels, and Fastest Growing Firms validates that we are successfully balancing the people and financial elements of our business.
