James Merlino, MD, President and Chief Medical Officer of Press Ganey Strategic Consulting, sat down with Consulting to discuss the firm's financial performance.

Consulting: What were the main factors that contributed to your firm's exceptional growth? 

Merlino: Press Ganey's consulting trajectory has been fueled by both organic growth and acquisitions. As we've continued to build a comprehensive strategy to help healthcare organizations deliver on the promise of safe, high-quality, and patient centered care, we've leveraged our platform to add other groups and expertise that complement our integrated offering. Our organic growth has enabled us to create better scale and refine our offerings to ensure that they are relevant to the needs of our clients and the industry.

Consulting: How is this year shaping up for your firm?

Merlino: 2017 will be another highly successful year for our consulting group. We continue to experience increased demand for our services across all areas and clients continue to recognize the unique value that we can deliver as we support their goals to enhance the safety, quality and experience of health care delivery.

Consulting: How would you describe your firm's outlook for 2018? Where do you see the most opportunities?

Merlino: We're optimistic in how we're positioned for 2018 and beyond. We'll continue to look for opportunities to expand our services through targeted, strategic acquisitions and by judiciously adding resources to meet market demand. Our focus will remain on innovating within our foundation to bring best in class solutions to the industry.

Consulting: What would you say are your firm's biggest challenges in 2018? 

Merlino: As I stated previously, I believe we're very well positioned for continued success. To realize our opportunities, we have three strategic imperatives as we enter 2018: Continuing to put the client at the center of our work; continuing to scale our business strategically and successfully; and ensuring that we are creating an environment that attracts and retains the highest quality professional in the industry. Just as healthcare keeps patients at the center, we keep our clients at the center of what we do. We are partners to our clients and when we work with them, we are as much a part of their organization as all of their employees.

Consulting: What does being named one of Consulting's Fastest Growing Firms mean to your firm, your employees and your clients? 

Merlino: It is a true honor and a validation of our vision and strategy, but most importantly, it's a testament to our team and the incredible work they have been doing for our clients.
