One of the main goals of Consulting magazine is to recognize greatness in the profession. Boy, do we have it in spades in this issue. This fall, we launched a brand new award—Con- sulting's Fastest Growing Firms. The idea was to find a way to recognize the firms that are shaking up the industry from the bottom up.
We knew they were out there and have covered them anecdotally for years, but decided it was time to focus squarely on revenue to compile a ranking of the 50 Fastest Growing Firms in the profession.
And that's just what we did. We wanted to shine a light on their results and share their stories because all too often these firms fly beneath the radar. This award is aimed squarely at the up-and-comers. These firms are the future, and they deserve to be noticed. We set out to find the Fastest Growing Firms by asking for revenue over a three- year period. To participate, firms needed to have at least $500,000 in revenue by Dec. 31 2011.
We were stunned by the re- sponse. Fifty firms qualified for the award this year, and I suspect that number will only grow in the future. The No. 1 ranked firm—Nexus Global Business Solutions—grew at an other-worldly 1,881 percent. The No. 2 firm, Falcon Consult- ing Group grew at an astronomical 1,845 percent. The winning firms averaged 247 percent growth. Wondering how they did it? No worries; we asked each and every winner to share the secrets to their success. This issue also highlights the Women Leaders in Consulting. This year, Consulting magazine was humbled to be able to able to honor Deloitte Consulting's Diane Davies with a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award for her nearly three decades in the profession.
