Gordon Mountford
Executive Vice President
Huron Healthcare
Excellence in Healthcare
In an era of profound change and great uncertainty in healthcare, Gordon Mountford and his team have built a set of processes and organizational values that enable Huron to operate at an extremely high level of effectiveness for clients, identifying and implementing new opportunities and helping them successfully manage the transition to accountable care, he says.
"One key to that success is collaboration. Huron Healthcare has the best collaboration in professional services that I have ever seen, and I really believe it makes a difference," he says. "Working with the team at Huron Healthcare to help providers, patients, communities, and other stakeholders successfully navigate these challenges motivates me to continue taking our game to the next level."
That next level is the ability to marry intellectual challenges with real-world results, Mountford says. "My job is never boring, and I find it is fun to work in the 'gray zone' on a consistent basis," he says. "It's also exciting to work in healthcare, especially in these times of uncertainty. The opportunity to help hospitals and their executive teams improve quality, safety, outcomes, costs, and patient experiences is very motivating."
So is working with "talented and smart people" every day. "Through collaboration we are better than we are individually," he says.
Mountford has overall practice responsibility for Huron's healthcare consulting business, Huron Healthcare. He also serves on Huron's firm-wide leadership team and brings more than 25 years of consulting experience, including 18 years focused on hospitals, academic medical centers, health systems, and payer organizations.
His experience has focused on improving operational and financial performance in diverse environments. Prior to assuming the leadership role of Huron Healthcare, he was the practice leader for Wellspring Partners, a Huron Consulting Group practice.
In that role, he worked with hospitals across the country developing and implementing comprehensive performance improvement projects. Previously, he led Wellspring's Revenue Cycle consulting practice focused on net revenue improvement, cash acceleration and business process transformation.
"There is no routine—every day brings a new challenge, and I am constantly learning," Mountford says. "The stakes are high as the U.S. health system transforms how it delivers care, and it's gratifying to help each client find the right solutions."
As far as the Top 25 Award, Mountford says he is "very proud and excited to receive this recognition as I think it speaks well to the success of our entire team and our clients."
What achievements and accomplishments are you most proud of over the last 12 months?
"I am most proud of Huron Healthcare's work empowering healthcare providers to significantly improve their financial performance by addressing organizational challenges and realize results. Hospitals and health systems are rethinking and rebuilding their processes, technology, culture, and behavior to deliver better patient outcomes at a lower cost as we move from a volume- to value-based system of healthcare. We are providing solutions that are making a measurable difference to our clients and the communities and constituencies they serve."
