Excellence in Leadership
A.T. Kearney's Beth Bovis' success has come from a combination of an unstoppable desire to solve problems, the support of generous individuals who have mentored her along the way, and the good fortune to find a firm that allowed her to pursue her passion for work and her love of life outside of work in parallel, she says.
"The work of consulting is unique in that it offers us the opportunity to address the most pressing problems of any organization. What stands out is the trust that we are given by those we serve and the way in which that motivates all of us to excel," Bovis says.
"I believe you have to have a passion for this work to excel, and I am motivated by passion for my clients, my teams, and my desire to leave behind something better than when I arrived."
The problems change each time, she says, but the intimacy that comes from working with teams and clients is what sets the profession apart. Bovis is an A.T. Kearney Partner and the Global Lead for the firm's Organization and Transformation practice. She also plays a critical role as the leader of the firm's Women's Network.
Her consulting engagements include: Global operating model design and governance processes for a major manufacturer designed to improve agility of decision making and strength of region and process intersection points; and, redesign of operating model, roles and processes for mission delivery in one of the largest non-profits.
Over the last 12 months, Bovis has had the opportunity to lead a global team focused on a holistic effort to transform the competency model, career progression, performance management, and compensation structure for A.T. Kearney partners.
"Touching the essence of our firm was a challenge, but I am incredibly proud of our ability to come together globally and accomplish the change, which is a crucial part of our growth ambitions," Bovis says.
"I am proud to have been able to work with our Senior Leadership Team to oversee such a pivotal improvement in our firm."
As far as winning the Top 25 Consultants Award, Bovis says it's a great honor. "I could not have gotten here without the support of A.T. Kearney, which is what continually drives me to give back to the firm to make it even better," Bovis says. "I hope that this Top 25 Consultants Award can serve to highlight not just what I have accomplished, but also what the firm has been able to achieve."
What do you enjoy about the work that you do?
"Seeing my clients or my team members succeed. I do this job to make an impact and it is always rewarding to see that impact in any number of ways: Getting a call from a client a year after our project was over to thank our team and tell me the company had hit the targeted performance goals two months early; working with a leadership team over four years to fundamentally change their structure and model—and still being there when they were able to declare their transformation a success; watching one of my mentees be elected partner in the firm; and, being a part of the A.T. Kearney Board when we took a historic vote that set the firm on a new trajectory for growth. None of them would've been possible without the personal development and leadership opportunities I've had through a career in consulting."
