As Sapient's strategic client and delivery lead for ISDA, Laura Rugarber is at the forefront of global derivatives regulatory advisory. In only two years of consulting, she's established herself as a key strategic partner.
Balancing collaboration with her ability to question status quo, Rugarber has advised on derivative regulatory change issues in the U.S., Europe and Asia. In addition to advisory, Laura also manages ISDA consultant teams in these geographies, as well.
And she's only been a consultant all of two years. Her previous work experience stretches from museum curator to journalist, with plenty of stops in between. Her vast background is an advantage, she says.
"My agility to approach the unknown and flourish has been my guiding star. Breaking into this industry from a tangential but different sector and educational footing has given me an enlivened sense of gratification about what is achievable," Rugarber says. "Thanks to Sapient Global Markets, I have had the opportunity to interact with a breadth of firms, from banks and asset managers through to market infrastructure providers including CCPs and Trade Repositories to an unprecedented degree, due to various regulatory initiatives."
With consulting, she says, all doors remain open as far as opportunity and areas to learn. "As a person driven by curiosity, I am afforded the chance to craft solutions in tandem with clients' best interests to improve the overall well-being of the financial markets," she says.
As far as the award, Rugarber calls it a great honor. "How I interpret this award is facing the next series of challenges that confront the industry and helping our clients with as much aplomb and excellence as possible."
