Joseph Kornik, Publisher & Editor-in-Chief This is Consulting magazine's seventh year honoring The Women Leaders in Consulting.

We began this award back in 2007 because we thought, quite frankly, it was long overdue. Now, seven years and some 65 awards later, we're more convinced than ever that it was.

And we are even more committed than ever to promoting the collective impact of women leaders in the consulting profession. And even though their numbers make up only about a quarter of the industry; we are all well aware that their impact is far greater.

Over the last seven years, the Women Leaders in Consulting Gala has become, quite possibly, the most significant initiative Consulting magazine undertakes each year. We're unbelievably proud of that. Starting with just a handful of nominations in its first year, the award has grown every year since. I'm proud to say this year we received 415 nominations for just 12 winners.

Last month, we gathered to honor those 12 new award recipients who represent The 2013 Women Leaders in Consulting. This year's class is highlighted by Antonella Mei-Pochtler of The Boston Consulting Group, who was recognized with this year's Lifetime Achievement Award for three decades of outstanding service. But each award winner has a unique story to tell. And they did that last month with more than 160 colleagues, coworkers, clients and family members at the St. Regis New York.

Their stories and the Gala awards dinner coverage is contained on Pages 8 through 33. For the award recipients, it's a celebration of their own accomplishments… thus far.

In a profession where the road less traveled is rarely the easiest route, these twelve women found their way to this point by making the journey on their own terms, often at great sacrifice. In doing so, they've not only achieved great things for themselves, their firm and the profession, but, perhaps more importantly, they've blazed a trail for other women to follow.
