Insight Sourcing Group 13. Insight Sourcing Group

Insight Sourcing Group has had 11 straight years of continuous growth and profitability, and the firm's been able to that without taking on any debt or outside investment, says Tom Beaty, President & CEO. The firm first appeared on Consulting magazine's radar as a Small Jewel in 2009, but this marks the firm's first time as one of the Best Small Firms to Work For.

"Being recognized as a Best Small Firm to Work For is a real honor for Insight Sourcing Group," Beaty says. "This award sends a clear signal to potential team members—as well as our clients—that we are a great firm to be associated with."

For the leadership team, he says, it also shows that all the effort is paying off. "We work hard to keep morale high, and our extremely low turnover suggests we're doing a great job," Beaty says. "Our commitment to work-life balance is one of the main reasons for this. It's something we really care about and is an important part of our culture. We offer a great option for top performers from the large firms who 'love the work and hate the travel.' "

It's no wonder than, that only five people have chosen to leave ISG to take another job in the firm's 11 year history. And many of the employees who join from a larger consulting firm say they have greater exposure to top client executives at Insight than the larger firms. And that, he says, leads to employee satisfaction and all-around positive culture.

"Our success is closely tied to the culture we've created and the core set of beliefs held by our founder that are hardwired into the DNA of the firm. We're not just trying to create a great procurement consulting firm—we want to build a great business from any angle and particularly want to be a great place to work," Beaty says. "We talk a lot about the culture. We're very purposeful about it because it's one of the things that makes us unique."

Insight Sourcing Group For instance, the firm has a 'Cultural Awesomeness' initiative that's focused on ensuring that as the firm grows, the culture stays strong, Beaty says.

And that's certainly a good thing, because growth is definitely on Insight's agenda. "As great as 2013 has been, 2014 should be even better," Beaty says. "The need for our services continues to grow, and after more than a decade of work, we've become a market leader in our niche. We are one of the largest independent 'pure play' boutiques in our niche and are regarded as one of the top firms—if not the top firm—serving Private Equity."

WHAT'S YOUR TOP PRIORITY OVER THE NEXT 12 MONTHS?
Tom Beaty, President & CEO of Insight Sourcing Group, says: "Intelligent growth is one of our top priorities– in other words, growing without negatively affecting client results, financial results, or our culture. We've increased the size of our staff dramatically this year. Bringing in so many people at one time is difficult for some firms. In our experience, however, when you hire great people, provide the infrastructure and processes they need to be effective, and give them a clear vision, everything else takes care of itself. For a firm that loves change, 2013 has been a big year. We're creating new practices in areas where we have deep expertise and launching entirely new business units. Making sure all of these efforts succeed is our other major priority."
