8. Deloitte Consulting
Ask Jim Moffatt, Chairman and CEO of Deloitte Consulting, about his priorities over the next 12 months and he says without hesitation to provide leadership to clients and career development opportunities for its people.
"For our clients, our leadership is important so they can address the issues that matter most to them and move forward with confidence. We'll make an impact for them by bringing unique industry insights. Our success will be measured by the meaningful and sustainable, long-term value we create," says Moffatt. "For our people, it's important that we continue to create meaningful careers, provide them with challenging opportunities, and teach them the skills they need to become leaders."
On this year's survey, Deloitte excelled in the area of career development, finishing third overall—its best ever—in the category.
"We're dedicated to being the organization where leaders thrive," he says. "We provide our people—at all levels—with challenging engagements and the support they need to be successful throughout their careers. Whether they're at Deloitte or an alumni working in an industry, we want our people to be leaders."
It's all part of the culture of learning at Deloitte, Moffatt says. Last year, Deloitte practitioners participated in nearly 1.6 million hours of formal learning, including e-learning courses and training at Deloitte University—a 700,000 square-foot campus that leads to "our people feeling satisfied and engaged."
Which, in turn, leads to Deloitte being named one of the Best Firms to Work For this year, continuing a run of five years. "In my tenure as CEO, we've worked to make sure our clients and our people know they're our top priority, and the [Best Firms to Work For] ranking shows our efforts have had an impact," Moffatt says. "I think it's rewarding for our people to see all the hard work they put into making our firm and culture strong is recognized."
Personally, Moffatt says, it also displays people's appreciation of the experiences the firm creates for them. But, he says, the ranking is not the final destination but rather serves as motivation. "We'll never be satisfied, and we'll always continue to strive to do more for our people, clients and communities," Moffatt says.
