Ask Dr. Andrew Ziskind, Clinical Solutions Leader for Huron Healthcare, what are the biggest factors to his success and he responds: "That's a tough one."
Dr. Ziskind says he has two personal goals: "I try to remain grounded in a personal philosophy of service to others. For me, the principles of servant leadership apply whether in direct patient care, healthcare administration or consulting," he says. "The second factor is continually striving for excellence—and mentoring others to persist, stretch and achieve."
It's important to do this while maintaining a positive attitude, perspective and focus, he says.
Dr. Ziskind has over 25 years of experience spanning clinical care; academic health system leadership for both the physician and hospital/health system side; development of innovative primary and specialty care delivery systems; leadership in accountable care and payment reform; and national and international consulting. Dr. Ziskind leads Huron Healthcare's Clinical Solutions and provides leadership to the Academic Medical Center team.
"One thing that makes me proud every day is seeing our teams helping hospitals work with their physicians to fundamentally redesign the way patient care is delivered," he says. "By improving operational efficiency and reducing care variation, we are now able to demonstrate dramatic improvements in cost, quality and satisfaction."
He says it makes him most proud when colleagues, particularly the younger ones, step back and realize the amazing difference they are making in the lives of others.
"By bringing together people with diverse backgrounds and deep industry and functional expertise, we can provide a level of certainty in achieving results that is unmatched. It's all about getting it right the first time, truly collaborating with clients, and ensuring robust sustainability of results," he says.
Prior to joining Huron Healthcare, Dr. Ziskind was a partner in the Health and Public Services Group at Accenture where he provided leadership for the accountable care organization and academic health system practices. Prior to this role, Dr. Ziskind held positions at BJC HealthCare for more than five years, including Group President, President of Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Senior Vice President for Health Care Reform.
"I love the intellectual challenge of what we do, and I'm also a bit competitive," Dr. Ziskind says. "We are witnessing one of the most exciting periods of change in the healthcare industry—one in which I know we can make a huge difference."
Q&A: What does winning the Top 25 award mean to you, your firm and your clients?
"It is an honor to receive this award, but this is really all about the Huron Healthcare team. We have a great culture and I fully consider that this honor belongs to them, not me. I'm incredibly proud of what we do, and proud to work alongside the members of the Huron team!"
