Randall Kane 13) Acquis Consulting Group

While it's often very difficult to maintain a positive culture while growing rapidly, that's just what Acquis Consulting has managed to do. As a result, the firm is back on our Best Small Firms to Work For list after a year hiatus.

It was a great year for Acquis in terms of revenue, new projects, and internal initiatives, says Randall Kane, Managing Partner of Acquis. In fact, the firm grew 60 percent, but in what he calls a very focused manner. "We planned staffing needs effectively and as we grew our employee base, we did so in such a way that it augmented our culture, rather than impeded it," Kane says.

"Firms tend to change dramatically through significant periods of growth, yet Acquis and our leadership handled that challenge by adhering to our founding principles of people first."

Kane says it's often difficult to define what makes Acquis a truly special firm, but he says a big part of it is how the firm works together, supports each other and its clients, and delivers exceptional work.

Acquis Consulting Group Headquarters That work is what Kane and Acquis calls "made-to-measure consulting," he says. "This allows for true collaboration with our clients and their teams, ensuring that we deliver long-term results our clients need." Which leads to real and lasting change, he says, "This approach is contagious with our clients who want us to create one team with them."

That approach also works internally, and it's often reflected on internal surveys. But the Best Small Firms award offers Acquis something an internal survey can not—external recognition.

"Gaining this accolade serves as a validation of the core values, brand, and goals of our firm. It says we hire incredibly talented people and support them in a way that allows them to deliver in an exceptional manner for our clients," Kane says.

"While always having a deep passion for our firm and the work we do, this award provides the Partners with a sense of accomplishment in knowing we have been recognized for our achievements—as a firm. It also elevates Acquis above the rest, showing clients that Acquis is unique and distinct," Kane says. "Acquis changes the paradigm of the client and consultant relationship—we know the client needs to get the project done—why not have fun doing it?"

Q&A: On this year's survey, Acquis excelled in the areas of Compensation & Benefits and Career Development. Why is that?

Randall Kane, Managing Partner, says: "Last year was a very profitable one for Acquis and we share monetary achievements with the firm. People work hard but are rewarded through compensation and other benefits including the culture they help to foster and the team they work with. High marks in career development speak to the extensive care we put into forward thinking for our culture and our people. Helping our consultants regularly gain knowledge—from internal work as well as from our clients—maintains an exciting workplace and one that is not stagnant."
